    My Boat Cruishing!!!!

hi all! i'm new in rc boating too. recently just finished my 1st e-boat by using some of my leftover e plane parts.
it's crushing at walking speed on water in full power not fast, but Fun!
this is all parts i used:
1.) plastic toy boat $5.(fr tai sing)
    2.) 550 motor.$?
3.) Traxxas Drive system $2+(fr Rotor)
    4.) Mtronik RV ECO20 ESC $62.++(fr Rotor)
    5.) 27AM radio set.$?(fr. P&C airplane-firebird like plane)
    6.) Some plywood+screw+epoxy.$?

Ran it last 2 weekend with some member at Macap reservoir, Johor.
    i interested in sailboat too!

Nice... not the most chio boat boat but the the scratch build factor is fantastic.

            Love it.

Hi Alex_Bong.... Machap reservoir is a good place for sail boat... Big and windy... Why not build a sailboat... like me...
If the building stops, the buying starts!

anyone sail in bedok reservoir? i went jogging there then saw this pontooin good for launching sailboat. But it;s locked with a no entry sign.

the water is clear, and cleaner then puggol pond( which i dun like it there).

i cant launch my sailboat safely in bedok reservoir. Any idea where in bedok reservoir can i launch my boat? anyone?

                  Hi Alex,

I have not played with RC boats for a long long time, but looking at your scratch-built boat, please allow me to suggest the following (based on memory from the days when I was more active in the hobby):

                  1. You mentioned that your boat was slow... a quick look at your photos show that the angle of the prop will most likely result in the bow of your boat being pushed down into the water when you run it. May I suggest that you start by adjusting the prop's axis to almost parallel to the waterline/bottom of hull. Make a quick run and you should see that the speed should increase a bit. Trim as you go... note that if the bow starts bouncing up and down as you run the boat, trim the prop back down a bit so that you push the bow back down as it drives the boat. With the surface prop setup you have, and if trimmed correctly, and running a more powerful motor, you should even see a nice rooster tail thrown up behind you boat when running at full speed.

                  2. Looks like you are using a stock motor of some kind... get a hotter motor from your fav RC shop and you will see higher prop speeds = faster runs. Unfortunately, this would mean also shorter run times per battery. Tip.. choose a motor with about 14-15 turns... should have plenty of speed and torque giving a balanced motor. Downside... not sure if your ESC will be able to take the higher current draw... we used to run with ESC meant for RC cars.

                  3. Get a higer capacity battery. Used to run 14 turn motors with 1200 mAh SCR batteries giving me approx 4-5 minutes of hi-speed runs. With modern batteries, I think 2000 mAh batteries and above are available.

Stuka and Icon are right... Scratch built boats are the best! I remember a bro whom I use to play RC boats with converted a normal model into a hydrofoil. Even though the maiden run was plagued with some problems, but the first time the hydrofoil planed, everyone at the Bishan Park pond cheered... including the folks who were there fishing and normally did not like us RC boaters.

Good luck in your trimming... and do post your updates here.

                  Cheers

                    NQD 'volvo' in q!

yes just bouth it last two week. then last weekend maybe 4got to took the controller home after play it at Machap. so now i losted total 2 of my controller 1 for my first 'Cartoon' eboat, 1 for the NQD
So, now need to replaced the tx, and on the way mod the NQD to more better performance! will kip in post the progress and maybe some of the pics??

Anyway thanks for commends, kip it coming

One more idea in mind, use the same type boat body like 'Cartoon' boat,
i would like to make a small sailboat! Which i think is possible ,any ideas??

If the pond/resevoir got duckweed, it is still can sail our sailboat? cos Machap resevoir got duckweed!! As now we will have to becareful not to drive our power boat over those duckweed to prevent those 'misai' like root tangle at prop. will post pic of the site once i got.

Yes possible to make a small sailboat, but it wont be able to handle strong wind, there will be no control, so must make sure wind is light.

                      This is what i did.

                        Hi Stuka,

Just curious... from your posted picture of your sailboat - won't the bow tend to be pushed away when the wind blows since the sail is biased towards the bow of the boat? (That's how windsurfers turn their sail boards - move the sail forward)

                        Cheers

CCx4, although the mast is close to bow, the CE of the sail is only about 2cm from CLR which is 0.5cm back from the leading edge of the keel. Maybe I can try moving the mast back by 1cm under stronger wind, but troublesome la, got other project to do....

thong you are right, that was a speedboat, but I didnt build it, bought for my son from a toy stall for $9 (I think) with all the small motor/prop, he only interest in the colorful box, so I took the hull and convert it to a handy small boat.. ...
