    R50 paint job.

Here's a pict of my 2nd attempt with paint job on Rappy canopies.

I think too orangy, but it's quite a success considering I failed big time the first time i tried with my R30 canopy...

        No lah... not that orangy...

But you are funny leh.. u should have note that orange and green paddles will be loud mah.. but you still choose the combination? Change it to the white paddles lah... but of course it is not as light weight as the green jellies lah..

But I do like the combi on the canopy... those are reflective stickers?

I kinda chose bright orange coz my last crash was orientation mistake after i flipped, and the heli was flying under dark trees as background....so decided that it's high time I made it bright....but never expect it so bright.....hehehehe...

Yep, those are what they called 'retro-reflective' stickers if i'm not wrong...I got one huge roll coz my tachometer needed it...so i thought just put it in good use on my heli...

            Dixon,
w.r.t to Heli Canopies, there are two types of R/C helis in this world as we know it--- Those that are supposed to be flown, and those that are supposed to be seen as displays. Ask one of the members on this forum. He should know very well the meaning of this statement. :na

I think it's an awesome paintjob because it's not awful looking ( not purple or pimp colour) and visibility is good. But the green paddles.... Orange-white makes a nice combo.

Thanks for the good words again... At least u guys are making me feel better about this paint job...

Yeah....the main purpose in embarking on my 2nd attempt is actually to enhance visibility of my heli... otherwise I'm actually pretty okay with plain old stock stickers...

Good Job man! Very nice. What treatment did u give the surface for paint adhesion?

Ahhh...okay.....treatment is simple....I hated all the hassles, so i always go for the easiest way...canopy was done in just 2 hours total, spread over two days..

Sandpaper the canopy with lightest/finest grade sandpaper.....wash canopy with soap and water......dry it...

Then I used the Tamiya paint for a light coat.....then wait for it to dry, and then another thicker coat.....I was stingy, only used one can of spray coz i dunno how well it will turn out...

After it dries up, the tamiya paint will be scratched easily...so.....

The key trick is to go buy another spray called, 'Clear Lacquer' for Automotive finish, aka. Plastic Primer, aka. Acrylic Epoxy.

Spray on light coat of clear lacquer, wait for it to dry....you'll start to see the gloss.....then after drying, another thicker coat of the clear lacquer....

It sure looks great now....just waiting for my next flight to see how the paint reacts with nitro fuel and see how it holds to scratches....

my only regret is that I should have spent more time sanding it properly, as upon close inspection, i can see some rough surfaces, and I should have given a thicker coat of Tamiya paint......but then again, i dunno how well the paint combi will work...so wait till my 3rd attempt...

The first step is something I did. The second, I did not used Tamiya before. The one I used was called "rJ" and "Nippon".

The clear laquer that I have used are not fuel proof. It gets sticky after awhile. What is the specific brand u used? Thanks.
