    Direct drive for Dragonfly

    Hi all,

Here's a newbie question for you guys:

Where can I get the CN12-RXC motor? How much is it? Does the label on the package say CN12-RXC or some other model name? Thanks!

Hi traderghost, welcome abroad, I never use a direct drive, so far its B2C for me. But guess the number u provided is those use by more direct drive flyer. U can try rotor or champion, think most get from there But must go w the correct prop I suppose. Wait a little longer, see if more direct driver owner can help

Thanks Mike for your input. I too hope more direct drive flyers can provide me the info I need. Because I bought a GWS EDP-50 motor recently, and replace the stock tail motor of the Dragonfly with this new motor and the included prop 3020. But after replacing, my Dragonfly won't lift off the ground. It seems as if the tail motor is over-drawing current and the main motor got not enough current to lift off.

I read in other post that people uses the GWS CN12-RXC motor for direct drive. So I would like to know where can I get this motor. Most LHS don't carry a motor labeled CN12-RXC.

It would be best if u can find that motor, but for now, u might wanna try the 12 bucks ips motor from champion ya.. it has got good authority compared to the b2c and u kinda dun have to worry that it burns out (under normal operation)

Only disadvantage is the added weight to the rear of the heli, so if possible, try shifting all electronics to the front of the heli, if its still rear heavy, just use the trims on the tx to solve it...

I believe ur 3020 would slip right onto the shaft. So yup.. go grab the motor now

BonJour, thanks for your very helpful suggestion!! I will go get it tommorow. But what is the model name of that IPS motor? Is the label on the package just IPS or some other GWS model name? Please advise.

Can I use my 8.4V NiMH battery with this IPS motor? Is it sufficient to provide power to both the IPS and main motor? Thank you!

            Hi traderghost

Yup... CN12-RXC. U can use CN12-RLC if you using 2Cell or 8.4V but I not recommend it because it draw more current.

If u get GWS motor alone at lets say Rotor shop, it is most likely to be CN12-RLC. If u can't find CN12-RXC, then u have to either online order overseas or just but IPS and use pinion puller to pull out the pinion and ditch those unecessary parts.

As for propeller, CN12-RXC should work best for GWS EP-3020 or any equivalent. Make sure u mounted correctly (That is the GWS wording is on the right side if u view from rear/tail)

Your 8.4V should be enough to supply all the necessary power unless your chopper is too damn heavy. Oh.. make sure the EP-3020 is not slipping.

well you can use IPS with the original gear box to drive the 6" tail rotor too. It will reduce the current use by the motor. The -ve side is you need to mod the tail pinion for the IPS motor.

                  Hi traderghost

Some mistake on my past post...must be very sleep when typing....Ok... here is the corrected word:

The GWS should be on the left side if view from rear/tail.

                  Sorry for that.

3 cell way too much for v the IPS motor I think ....they are only rated to about 6v so using the 2 cell is just enough.

2 cell and brushless still works.

Disable the BEC on the tail ESC ( Remove the red colour wire from the esc to the rx ) I am using 3S on my pic pro and by doing it, touch wood so far so good. 4 tail motor is a little too much

                          Cheers
