Hi guys, i am planning to get a Tamiya Brand RC car, my ever first time getting a car as i normally on Tanks, so i am a super newbie at cars. Which model would you guys recommend?
Do Original Tamiya car kits came with transmitter and receiver? I saw a few car base models like TT01, etc, whats all this?

1. TT01
- basic chassis
- shaft driven
- variations include TT01D (for drift), TT01E (reinforced structures), XB (expert-built: ready-to-run)
2. TA-series
- beginner to intermediate level
- belt-driven
- latest variation is TA-05v2.
- no ready-to-run versions. but can hunt for used ones.
3. TB-series
- beginner to intermediate level
- shaft-driven
- latest variation is TB-03
4. TRF-series
- intermediate to advanced level
- race-ready chassis
- variations include TRF415 (belt), TRF416(belt), TB-Evo3/4/5(shaft)
highly recommended to start off with the TT01 as it is extremely user-friendly as well as wallet-friendly too! once u get the hang of it, there's no stopping you from upgrading to other chassis!

buying a TT01 your car will end up in the selling thread in no time. go for something more tuneable .
Ta05/sprint2/cyclone s are better choice to go for.

i'd say go for a tt-01 if are on a budget, or not sure if you are gonna be serious. if you have the $$$, Ta-05 or more!

Thanks guys, just went down to Swans Model to check out, its below $200 for kit itself. Would go down again to get my TT01 a few days more.
So what are the Original parts that will need to replace? I mean sooner or later for the worn out parts?

you need to change the tyres and rims to T-drift tyres by HPI cause the tamiya ones are 24mm while t-drifts are 26mm ....... as for easy worn out stuff usualy the spur and pinnion gear will wear out and maby 1/2 a year change a new bath tub will be fine for beginer .... dun up grade your car if u really want to carry on with the hobby to another level get a prokit (416, cyclone,pro-D,Xray) only after you are very sure u seriously want to carry on (its all about the skill)

Ok, I "Think" i understand what you refering to. Will get to know more while i assemble it as i had to "Hands on". Had a few questions to know.
But what if i don't change the rims and continue to use tamiya ones?
I heard that once the player gets serious, most will upgrade the chassis, is it a must? Do expert racers still use basic chassis?

hza why ,even if you buy a clone Pro D/ xray/415 from china it can drift better then tt01. you have tons of things to change and it still not close to 05/cyclone s.
why people give up this hobby because after tons of hops up it still not close to what they expect.
well this is your $ you make your own choice. hobby dont come cheap and cheap hobby dont last long.

erm.. most people will recomend the metal shaft and motor mount.
also.. go with a good set of tires as the tamiya ones aren't that great as they have a coating that is smooth as in the beginning but as it wears off will make the tires more grippy.

DO NOT HOP UP the TT01. speaking from playing 5years of experience playing Rc car.
Getting TT01 is not wrong, i would recommend u get a TT01 then if you are serious upgrade to TRF series.
I started with TA04 then changed to Xray T1 after 1 or 2 months and being enjoying every moment of it, because the handling is simply superb and i don bang much, setting up the car to run well is easier too.
There is a limit what a TT01 can do, if you slap in a fast motor, i guarantee it can't run well. But if you only into drifting then it's fine.
May i ask what you want to do with the RC car? Play drifting or play Touring on track? Both are very different field and skillset.
I only play Touring, not into drifting. I play at the track at Bottlepark Yishun, do drop by and see if you like the environment. Can join us.
If you get a TT01, you can join the Tamiya Race stock race, it's damn fun, everyone else is using the TT01 and beginner. The 2009 races has concluded, so you have time to train for the 2010 race but i am pretty sure u get bored of it by the time come hehehe.............
I am running a TRF416 now, got it off a brother, sold off my TRF415MSX-MRE.
Seriously what i recommend if you do not wanna spend an arm and a leg and dunno if you are serious about the hobby, you can grab a second hand car, TT01 goes for as low as $80 second hand, TA05 can go about $180 to $200. do check out rctech.net under Singapore section.

Thanks hoppie for giving me more info about the chassis. Would double consider. Mostly i get this RC car main purpose is for drifting, but i still can change the tyres anytime for touring right?

make sure no cracks here and there, and is in clean condition. a clean car means a driver who takes care of his things:hammer
