why just dont you drill the bore a little bigger?

not easy to drill bro, is hardened steel. another concern will be the center issue, very hard to drill in the middle, slightly miss align it will out of balance and lots of vibration.

will check with machining shop, not sure whether they can help me. anyway thankx for your reply.

Bro if u want to drill 5mm to 6mm can but u cannot use hand drill not stable n run of alighment. You can use drilling machine or the best is cnc machine

CNC also difficult to align the center, best is to use a lathe machine. But it's a bit to small to champ on the chuck.

A drill bit is somewhat self centering, you just need a bench drill to do it.

i don't think it's harden. Harden steel is too brittle to be used as a gear.

if you really worry then buy a cobalt drill bit to drill it.

the cheapest way is on a drill machine, use a 5mm bit to center the pinion on the vise, drill or bore using 6mm. precision come with a price, cnc or not.
else the next best thing is keep this pinion for future use and get a new 6mm pinion.

Its a Great day, lets fly, crawl, and fight.

I had a coupler that was 4mm and got a machinist to help me drill to fit my 5mm motor shaft. He recommended the bench drill machine and did it for me. His drilling movement was slow and he used lubricant.

Have been using the coupler on my boat w/o any vibration from it.

wow...Great to hear that, mind to share which machine shop you went? how much they charge for this job? really appreciate your reply.

The machine shop is in Changi Naval Base. During my reservist, i approached the machinist there to help me. He has been with ST for 30+yrs.

The price was one packet of coffee from the canteen.

So I cant help u on this. My next reservist is Sep 09. If u willing to wait, I can help u pass it to him to help u do. They have all kinds of machines there, milling, lathe, drilling, bending, sawing, etc....

Muahahaha...okok...then nothing can be done for now. i'll try to ask around, maybe local machining shop able to provide the same service.

                    thankx bro.

If someone w a lathe can help, that will be easiest.

Just chuck it and run the drill bit in, coolant / cutting oil and slow speed help reduce deflection thus ensuring good concentricity.

Otherwise, if you can hands on a drill press, Pilot Bear method is the only way out. Coolant / cutting oil + slow speed will ensure nice hole.

My advise: The best way is to "Wire cut" the hole or internal grinding by centerless machine.

If you drill, the concentricity will be off unless you have a very precise, heavy duty and stable machine.
Even then, if you can drill it to 6mm..you center location cannot be "Zero" neither. Your gear will run off set causing lots of vibration, and this COULD lead to more damgaes in your motor and gear box system.
I have some vendor in Singapore can provide wire cut services, and if you need them.. drop me a email.
                        Hope this helps..
