    Gws A4

currently building the GWS EDF A4, anyone got any comment or recommedation or caution to take note for this plane?

is the GC easy to find? according to the manual will do it is?

how is the flying exp of this plane

am using the stock BL motor
will be getting the 70AMP ESC and 2000++ mAh battery

    Thanks

    My friend had this plane.

Nothing much to take note of, just like any other arf planes. Caution the servo controlling front gearservo might strip easily because it's located externally.

for CG,Toss the plane in the air and watch it glide without any electronics. Do it at a grassy area. Observe the gliding characteristics and adjust CG accordingly. Next is to put in powerplant and fly it once (after comfirming locating the rough CG location) land the plane and futher adjust your CG to have a more stable flight. Of course, if the manual states where the CG is... just follow it and you can adjust slightly according to your preference.

i guess 70AMP is really high for this small light weight plane, unless ur edf is drawing currents reaching 60amps. You'll have a heavy wing loading and will be tougher to control with fast landings. I recommend 30Amp esc and a lighter batt too such as 1000-1500maH. This way, you'll have a gentle to fly A4 skyhawk.
    Build it
    Fly it
    Crash it
    Fix it

thanks viper for your value advise.

the ESC recommended from the manual said min 55A using the stock BL motor, therefore 70A is the closest I can find. so u think I should go for a smaller Amp ESC? will it burn away?

I got this from rotor hobby.

        GWS-A4 EDF75 BL2815-2A Electric Airplane, White, GWSA4

        Product Code : [GWAEO029D]
        GWSA4 Specification
        Wingspan: 770mm (30.4”)
        Length: 1100mm (43.3”)
Weight: about 950 grams (33.6 oz).
        Wing Loading: 40.1~46.1g/sq dm (13.2~15.1 oz/sq ft)
        Power System: EDF75 - BL2815 ~ 2
        Radio System* : 4 Ch. Transmitter with GWS receiver RD8SL + Naro/HP Servo x5
        Battery Pack used*: 3S 11.1V 2200~2500mAh Lipo pack (15~25C)
        Speed Controller*: ESC55A

        From other sources

Amp Draw: 41-49A max (for BL2815-2A motor)
Thrust Output: 800-900g max (for BL2815-2A motor)

        And another source from Rcgroups.com

        Hi John,
It's about 42A at 3S 11.1V. Never try to use 4S 14.8V with this motor as it's overvoltaged.
        Have a good maiden !

        Best Regards,
        Chen

        Conclusion

forget what i said about my last post about keeping the plane light... , Your motor will be drawing around 40A+ as stated. And as for the battery, yep a 2000maH with 25C will do fine. Higher the C the better of course.

Snice it came with a powerful stock bl motor..., Why not get a ESC closely match with the motor amp draw...,jethobby sells hobbywing ESCs, theres one at 60Amp. (unless that 70Amp esc you have in mind is cheaper, more reliable , smaller and compact and lighter)

        Specifications:
Output: Continuous 60A, Burst 80A up to 10 Secs.
Input Voltage: 2-6 cells lithium battery or 5-18 cells NiCd/NIMh battery.
        BEC: Pentium-60A: 3A / 5V (Switch mode).
Max Speed: 210,000rpm for 2 Poles BLM, 70,000rpm for 6 poles BLM, 35,000rpm for 12 poles BrushLess Motor.
        Size: 70mm (L) * 31mm (W) * 14mm (H).
        Weight: 60g.

PS: Yes, esc burns if the motor current exceed it's stated limits

at least 50 to 60amp esc to keep the ESC "awake" .... the last thing you want is your ESC to cut while in mid-flight.

lol... where got changi airport size. I got agreement with MHA to keep things tidy so got a room for my RC. In exchange I cant stop her from buying shoes. I have a friend who lives in serangoon who have a level of his bungalow for his RC hobby. Anyway a sneak peek into the raven's nest.
