[Need Help Experienced Pilot] Flying my mainden Flying Wing

    Dear All,

I'm sorry if I made this thread here, dunno where else to put.

    Eniwei...
I am NTU student and currently doing a project. Since it is randomly allocated project, I got this rc related project (i have no experiences at all in RC and its stuffs).

Basically the purpose of the project is to study the effect of movable winglets in an aircraft. Can it provide roll, yaw and pitching moments or not.

And my activities so far (and thanks to some brothers in DaddyHobby whom I've asked and have helped me a lot) was designed and built the prototype. it made of balsa wood).

The aircraft is controlled without aelerons. Only a pair of independently-controlled winglets (to roll and yaw) and an elevators (pitching).

I have posted details of my maiden aircraft in Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0snMtSq6SU

Now, the problem is that the fact that I have no experiences in flying RC aircraft. Once I tried to fly myself, and end up hit somebody in the field.

I need help from DaddyHobby members to fly my aircraft. Basically I want to see whether it can fly or not first. And then see it can turn or not.

For those who are willing to help me flying my maiden flying wing, please reply my post here, or PM me or sms/call me here: 91960684.

I lived at NTU and would like to thanks if the flying field near to NTU. (I've seen a flying fields somewhere in jalan bahar, in the back of a pri school and westwood sec school).

But basically anywhere is OK for me, I would bring my flying wing to your preferred site.

Hopefully can fly as soon as possible within this week. (weekdays or weekends OK for me).

    Thanks so much.

Hi, now the wind at bedok is good to fly a plane (glider). Pardon my knowledge of aerodynamics . I have a few comment on your plane.

    a. I think your plane is head heavy.
    b. I think you need a fin for vertical stability.
    c. I think you are not designing a winglet but a flapping wing. Winglet is the one you see at those 747 jet wing tip.

I doubt your plane can fly (if can , I really happy for you).
becaue the aerodynamic theory is beyond me.

good luck and if you need some advice (you can call me at 90077100)

Hi there, I'm a student from ntu too. Also staying in Hall. That's an interesting design you got there. I can provide some help if you want But i'm flying in Mode 2. You can reach me at 90036567.

Drop by Jalan Bahar flying field on Sat or Sun between 8-10am as there are lots of Bros flying there and everyone are friendly to help you out.

Well... after having some consultations, yupzz... I am planning to put a pair of vertical fins... Heheheeee....

My understanding in aerodynamics not better than you, Bro...
I have never taken any aerodynamics courses in schools.
My major is mechatronics (not related to any of this stuff)

Yes, this is not the most commonly used winglets. It is "movable winglet".

eniwei... Thanks for your suggestions, Bro...

Thanks also to Bro Ken who gave me some comments on my designs as well.

Well... we'll see whether it can fly or not... soon enough.......

          wish me luck!!

I think the aircraft is not providing enough propulsion to create lift under it's wings

              Motor Underpowered?

              Hi,

I am a newbie myself and I used to supply motors to the NTU Robotics Research Centre or the RRC. Have done many projects at NTU in automation stuff with many different types of motors there.

Anyways, from your video, it appears the flying wing may be too heavy for the motor you have got there. The flying wing made of foam or balsa?

Maybe you need to spend some time trying to size the motor to match the weight of the aircraft, etc. The RRC is actually a great resource for you to seek their help for sizing the right motor for your aircraft.

              Just a suggestion.

Considering the craft has not shattered on impact, it looks too robust - that probably explains the heavy weight.

Im no engineer but i dont see how the movable winglets give you any sort of aileron/elevator control of the craft, since it does not direct airflow to induce the required effect to turn the craft.
