PC Power Supply Usage (Tap 12Volt DC)

    Hi,
Anyone with knowledge to use our old-PC Power Supply which is AC powered to Tap the 12 Volt DC.

I can see lots of Spaghetti Output wires and my understanding is that it must be plugged on to PC board before this Power unit is activated.
Question 1. Which wire to Short to Activate the Power Supply, so that you can hear the Cooling Fan working?

Question 2. Any suggestion to tap which of the Socket for 12 V.

Needless to Guess, it is used to hook up a Lithium Charger.

Much oblidge if someone can help out.

    Thanks
    Vifo

There are 3 types of computer power supply. One that is very very old (8088 or Z80 type) is using transformer.

The other one is AT power supply (From 80286 to Pentium 1). This one is a switching power suppy or SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply). This one u do not need motherboard to power on. To on is just connect AC power to it and normally there are 4 wires (or cable of 4 wire) to a switch.

The newer one that u normally see in Sim Lim Square right now is ATX type. This type the power supply require u to short 2 wire to turn on.

So which one are u refering to?

As for the o/p, just use the o/p for the hard disk or cdrom cable. In that cable, u will see 2 black, 1 red and 1 orange/yellow. The Yellow is +12V and Red is +5V. Both black is the same and it is 0V. To use +12V, just connect the Yellow and either Black.

Mike.. move this to Battery and Power Supply area leh.

How many amp is require is depend on what charger u using and what current or C u intend to charge. Normally the charger take very low current so lets say u charge at 2A, normally it needs at least 2.5A.

Normally u supply the charger with i/p supply that can provide more than it requires. In the above situation, then you need to supply 2.5A.

How much current a computer power supply can supply is again, depend on what model or wattage your computer power supply is. Some computer power supply can supply 10A without any problem.

                ATX Power Supply Type

                Hi Super Hornet,
It is the ATX Power Supply type that I believed you need to plug into MB to activate, any hint here which to short.

                thanks

Hm, i check 3 of my power supplies.
                  2 of them give 11.2 votes, one 6A the other 15 A
1 of them give 10.9 votes.

This enough to power the tahmazo T26/10 or the Apache 2500 ?
