    Building a 1930 Classic J-Class

'SHAMROCK V' was the first of the 'J' Class yachts and also the last remaining wooden J-Class yacht. Designed by Charles E. Nicholson for Sir Thomas Lipton (Lipton Tea) in 1930.

I managed to find a set of plans on the web to build an RC version. The plans are not in good condition, lacking in details such as weight, CG, mast location, waterline location etc etc..and there is also no sail plan. Fortunately, the patterns are usable.

    J-Class Shamrock V display model:

The plans were scale up to 1:1 for building a 36" (around 90cm) boat.

Planking with 1.5mm balsa cut to 1cm wide strip and 0.6cm wide strip. Steeper curve of the hull is easier to plank with 0.6cm strip.
