Frank, could it have shorted? Overheat burns usually not so visible, this one looks like a real bad case of shorting and burn.Stop looking for a gyro in my plane, they are all in the head.

looks like a bad case of the esc not being able to handle the lipo
had the same burnt esc when i put 2s2p into a miniz once..

Ouch! Sorry for your loss bro
Did your esc ever get wet in previous runs? Water corrosion is a slow but evil killer of electronics... causing short circuits when it slowly dries out leaving rusty or mouldy bridges across components.If in doubt - add more horsepower!Comment

Guys, just want to give you a tip on sourcing esc's (you probably know this already). Here is an 80amp esc I bought from ebay recently for S$85 shipped. It's designed for aircraft, but can be adapted for boats using Mad Armour's method of water cooling
