    Newbie in Boating...

    Hi,

I am new in boating, presently converting a 1/250 scale WWII IJN YAMATO to a R/C boat. Planning to have twin screws with forward and reverse run. The problem I am facing is finding a ESC that can do the job. I am running on brushed motor to make things simpler... Any of you guys have any ideas? Thanks...

    Cheers

    Hi Freeman

I'm using a Futaba MC230CR with a 550 brushed motor and 2s lipos. I got it from Swan (Winnie) at Orchard Plaza a while a ago for about $70. It's designed for buggies but can be water cooled (if necessary) by simply running a short piece of alum or brass tube through the fins (see photo). It goes fwd and rev... even has thermal cut-out if things get too hot. Before water cooling, it use to cut-out after a few minutes because of the heat. With water cooling, it runs continuously with no problems.

You can check out its specs on the web Provided you're not running ultra hi amp motors, it should cope with 2 motors (e.g. 380 or 400 size) running in parallel easily. The esc is very compact so it should fit your hull with the rest of the rc and battery gear.

If in doubt - add more horsepower!

You can use the Mtroniks range of 100% waterproof ESC too. One of the good feature of Mtroniks ESC is it's wide operating voltage range, with most of them running at 4.8V to 9.6V. That's anything between 4 and 8 cells.

If you want to run 2 x 540 motors simultaneously with one ESC, you'll have to get one with minimum 13T. Best if <10T, to have some safety margin.
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

        Hi
Those ESC are sort of 'digital' kind. You maybe able to find some analogue kind. Works equally well if you are not go for 'performance' & the price is also budget. You can try to search around for these. Otherwise, those ESC mentioned by some friends here like those usually use for cars will do fine as well so long it fit into your model

          Thanks guys.

I am actually planning to run like the real ship where the 2 screw are independent, which means 2 esc and ultimately what I want to achieve is to be able to "twist" the engine like the real ship. (one running forward, one running reverse.) So I guess besides 2 separate ESC, I have to re-programme my tx to do the stunt.

          Cheers
