    Ponggol Park - FAQ

    Dear All,

There are many questions related to the pond in Ponggol Park. May i invite the members of the club to kindly share some information to enlighten the crowd. (Refering to the questions asked in eariler on the other thread)

Good idea Speedster... let me get things rolling...

    Question:

Do you have to be a member of Hougang CC Model Power Boating Club to run your rc boat at PP?

    Answer:

No, there are many fellow hobbyists who are not members that run their ep/nitro boats at PP on Sundays with/alongside club members. Nevertheless, all nitro boaters are required to comply with the noise restrictions (max 90db at 50 feet) and the run time restrictions (2 to 5 pm) imposed by NParks. However, many non-members who run regularly on Sundays do eventually end up being members (myself included!). One "invisible" but important benefit is public liability insurance coverage (but compliance with the club's safety rules means we never have to use it - fingers crossed!).
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Can I just get help to clarify on some questions?

      1. Is saturday pm a Yacht boat only restriction at PP. Can I run my quiet electric boat on saturday pms.

      2. Can I run quiet electric boats outside of the Sunday afternoon hours. Is the pond restriction largely due to the noise level caused by the boats?

      3. How does the club ensure that non-club members (who are not so nice) do not turn on transmitters without checking freq clashes. Is there a system/mechanism in place to ensure this safety aspect.

      4. I have a toy boat - can I run at my boat at the pond anytime? This is somewhat a technical qn from me - do those toy boats interfere with the hobby class boats?

Hi Phan... I will respond to your Qs as best I can...

        1. Is saturday pm a Yacht boat only restriction at PP. Can I run my quiet electric boat on saturday pms.

The club does not administer any rules regarding rc boats other than in respect of the time slot and noise restriction imposed by NParks on Sunday for nitro/gas boats. We have no say in what people do at the pond outside the NParks regulated hours. After all (and as many have pointed out) the Club does not own the pond... it merely ensures compliance with NParks restrictions during the designated hours so hobbyists can continue to enjoy rc boating there.

        2. Can I run quiet electric boats outside of the Sunday afternoon hours. Is the pond restriction largely due to the noise level caused by the boats?

I believe the answer is "yes", but do show respect and courtesy to other pond users.

        3. How does the club ensure that non-club members (who are not so nice) do not turn on transmitters without checking freq clashes. Is there a system/mechanism in place to ensure this safety aspect.

This problem applies to all rc hobbyists... club or no club. Generally, people do act sensibly and carry out a frequency check by asking around or by switching on their Rx and checking for interference. But given the range of rc systems, there is no foolproof way around this problem... we just have to be alert and look out for tell-tale signs of clashes and interference, and stop running asap.

        4. I have a toy boat - can I run at my boat at the pond anytime? This is somewhat a technical qn from me - do those toy boats interfere with the hobby class boats?

Many toy boats run 27mhz am transmitters (but there are exceptions)... this could interfere with other hobbyists running on the same or a similar am frequency. Again, if you experience a radio glitch, recover your model and try to identify the source.

Anyone else who may have something to add are welcome to do so

                    thank you
I belive the answer is outside of the stated hours HG RC club is not able to enforce or help ensure that it is within NP park rules.

if you play your boat any time you are liable for what ever you do.
best if if you keep to the same rules. any other times.

                      NParks Signage at PP

The signage on NParks' rules for running IC boats at PP is up

Sorry for the small photo... dunno how to reduce the file size w/o shrinking the photo. Maybe someone else can take a better photo and post it on this thread...

Point #2 on the notice board

All boat operators must be registered with National Parks Board.

I do know Parks Rangers comes by to check.

Hi, what does this statement means "All boat operators must be registered with National Parks Board"?

"Boat operators" refers to the person controlling the boat? Then must register with NPB? Don't understand.
After so many years, I am still a beginner
