    BL Motor Recommendations

I got a small boat on 400 size motor. Does anyone have recommendations on BL and ESC that has the same shaft diameter and mounting screw location/diameter as the 400 size motor that can work on my small boat?

Something available locally would be ideal.

    Cheers

What is the present shaft size - 2.3 or 3.2mm?

      Hi hi hi.....

Its the permax 480 which has the shaft dimensions of the 400 motors (2.3mm). The screw mount position is also the same as the 400. It currently fits perfectly on the gundert shaft set for 400 motors.

        Hi Phan

How have you been? Haven't seen you at PP for ages

I have also been looking for a BL with similar dimensions as a 400. Since we can't use outrunners (can't wrap the cooling coil around the spinning case ), I've been looking on ebay. There are several avail from HK vendors with esc packages. The ones with a 26mm can diameter, 2.3mm shaft and 2000/2500 kv range should do the trick, but was put off by the high shipping and handling charges (despite the package being relatively small).

If anyone has seen something similar locally, please let Phan and I know
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

the cheapest option is to buy align outrunner motors of 2800kv, can still wrap some al tubing over it. Maybe can pick-up from market place for some used ones.

wow - didnt know its that complicated. If must modify then I will probably wait till something that has that specs hit the market.

Dor.... I sort of lost touch with the boat thing for awhile. Since I made my orange mini hydro I have only tested it, ripped out hte receiver for something else and left it in cold storage. The BL was intended to revive this boat and my attention to the hobby.

Why not check with Mack for a 400 sized Himark?

Ever considered using a 300 sized instead? I'm sure with the adequate number of batts, it should be able to outperform a brushed 400 motor. There are plenty of 300 BL motors with 2.3mm shafts out there.
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

OK I will go search and learn about these 300BLs and the Himark..... Thanx

Can try this from rotor but cooling it will be a problem. Shaft's 2.3mm though.

I will go there to check the mount screw dimensions - looks like workable. The ribbed grooves looks excellent for cooling!!! wrap a plate round and cut water pass thru holes between the ribs.

The rotor motor looks very small. Didnt want to risk it as I not good with those torguey and rpmy calculations.

But today saw the multiplex motor at NTC that fits 400s to a T. But kind of expensive at 120 I believe. Also its designed for planes so dunno with explode in my boat or not - so for now, its back to the tin can!

                        Hi Phang,
I'm very sure one of the Multiplex motors (model) will work for you.

The Multiplex is a brushless? If i remember correctly a sp400 has a kv of about 2500 so you would be aiming for a motor around that range up to 2800 kv. Most brushless has a shaft of 3.2mm for strength but you can order a coupling that wud work. I think $120 for a quality brushless is inexpensive.

Hi Zan.... the multiplex motor is on either a 2.3 or 3.2 shaft configuration. So its a direct fit!! exact fit including screw mounting holes to a speed400.... Must ask my inner soul if I want to make this investment....

yes - very brushless. Did not see a single brush!!! Turn it with my fingers - very shiok.
