How To Extract Flight Data From Hobbywing Platinum V4 ESC

Unlike ESC such as Castle, Hobbywing Platinum V4 ESC doesn't store the detailed flight data.
However, it does provide live data.
I'm using VBC, it would be nice if Hobbywing and Mikado can work together to capture and show ESC flight data on the Tx.
As of now, it appears that Hobbywing and Mikado are sticking to their position that their respective data protocol is the best on earth (LOL).
So, no deal between them. As a result, the users suffer.

I have been trying to find a way to record the HW ESC flight data.
At this moment, I can only think of one way. It is to use a device call JLog card.
There are a few versions available in the market, I used an older version, JLog 2.5 (cheaper).
You can get the JLog 2.5 card from: http://rc.zenmtech.com/telemetry-log...-jlog-2-5.html

I tried the JLog 2.5 with HW Platinum V4 160A, it worked fine.

    1. Wiring
The cable (servo cable that supplied with the device) that connect between JLog and the HW ESC.
You need to swap the power and signal pins. See picture below.

    2. JLog 2.5 Firmware.
Need to upgrade JLog 2.5 firmware
Donwload the latest firmware (use the "consolidated firmware").
    Download link: http://j-log.eu/wp-content/plugins/JAD/jad25.php
    - Select Hobbywing Platinum V4
    - As for telemetry selection, select "JR DMSS" (not important what you select unless you plan to connect the telemetry to Tx), then click "GO"

This will download a *.bin file.
Copy this bin file to the root directory of the JLog's SD memory card.

Insert the SD card into the JLog card and then power it up (by connecting it the data port of HW ESC or a suitable power source).
Power the heli, the JLog will automatically upgrade the firmware.

The file "version.txt" at the SD card root directory will show the installed firmware version.

Need to delete the *.bin file on the SD card after programming.

    3. JLC 7 Sofware.
This is the software that do the configuration of the JLog.
Download JLC 7 from the following link: http://j-log.eu/wp-content/uploads/common/JLC7.exe

Install the JLC 7 after download.

    Run the JLC 7.

    - Plug in the SD card into the PC.
    - First select the JLog Dev Type (see the green box in the top middle). Select JLog 2.5.
    - Then select the ESC/Telemetry type (left top box). Select "Platinum V4 JR...".
    - Select motor poles.
    - Select Pinion teeth, and main gear teeth
    - Select nothing at the right side (Interfaces/Sensors) since we are not connect telemetry to Tx.
    - Click the "Save" button (in the left middle, pink button).
    - This will save configuration to the config file in the SD card root directory.

That's it for the JLog card.
Can now plug in the SD card into the JLog card.
Connect it to the ESC data port using the swap cable (as mentioned in 1.).

Now when the heli is power up, the JLog card will capture and store the ESC live data into the SD card.
Each flight will have one *.txt file created in the SD card.

Next, need the Logview V2 software to view the log files.

    4. Logview V2 Software

You need Logview V2 to display the ESC flight data.
Download the Logview V2 from the link: http://www.logview.info/forum/index.php?resources

    Install it.

Download the "JLog26HBWv4.lov" file from link: http://j-log.eu/wp-content/uploads/H...Log26HBWv4.lov

Run the Logview software, open (File->Open) the "JLog26HBWv4.lov" file once.

You can then import the recorded log files (File->Import Devfile) and view the ESC data captured by JLog card.

Now, can open any log files in the SD card.

    Screen shot of Logview.
