I thought OHR has been close down? hehe.
I had a close call Sunday evening at PFW. Launch my omega and the right wing control surfaces were not moving. I took it up to around 200m before I realize something was wrong. Good thing the right wing surfaces were at neutral position. I had only left wing control and manage to land without incident.

Oh wow Dennis, good thing! I would hate to see an expensive and pretty bird crashing. Servo fail?

At OHR you gotta exercise consideration lest the residents call the cops to chase you away. Just do what you normally do at PFW or near any housing estate. It really is a very nice, private housing area. I would love to move to such an area, but alas I still haven't become a technology multi-millionaire yet....

It is the 2nd time, but I have a lot of 'air time'. After coming down, had a servo failure. Perhaps it is burning up the onboard BEC on my ESC. Anyway will get an ESC with switching BEC to be on the safe side. The hobbywing guard or turnigy sentry has a switching BEC. Range check returns ok, 30 paces fine. The antenna are also sticking out of canopy. So it is likely to be an issue with the BEC.

10am is the best time for thermals. I had more luck with 10am soaring than with noon soaring. Evening, there is a lot of sink but thermals also seem to be more defined.

Dennis, got time, we can organise a flatland glider gathering! We got DLGs, electrics, and hi-start fellows here.

That could be the cause, BEC overheat and shut down.

Finally, install and fixed up the servos in my Binary 900 last night. Planning for maiden this Sat if the weather allows.

Do post the meet location and time, maybe able to join you all.

Good luck on the b900 maiden. But it's a real pussy cat to fly, so no worries there.

I did an estimate of the distance to our gliders, and it’s around 270m. Don’t think that is the range limit of your 2.4. It was scary for me also, it just dive down almost vertically. Luckily the link was back with enough height to recover. Is this the first time you encounter this?

I like that place too, looks like the big thermal appears around 10 am. Encountered the biggy on another two occasions, at about the same time. Too bad I have to pack and go by 10.30am. Have you try catching thermal after that time, like near noon time where the ground are already hot?

A flock of small birds circling around also indicates the presence of thermal. On the previous weekend, I follow these birds and found a big one. The uplift was strong; I have to dive the TTSS down after making 2 circles. Just to keep it in my comfort range.

The same happen to me I was diving down to get away from the thermal because the glider was going to fast.The next minute it sink so fast that it head straight to a tree.Manage to blank off a bit from the tree and prevent heavy damage to my glider.Just a bit dented on the wing tip.
