haha .. all the parts is ripped from an old machine. So it's kinda free.

just powered up the motors and all are working fine.

time to fab my cnc structure.

any good and cheap places to get 1/2" thick aluminum plates?

Flye, looks like you're ready to transform & roll out, please take more pix as you progress. As for aluminum, just stroll down kelantan Lane, some shops there got scrap & odd pieces thats cheaper

Pilot Bear, your wooden unit looks interesting. I think its a practical & economic way to go with wood for lower cost for first unit to iron out the rough edges.

      Good work guys

I agree. That's what I plan to do so that I can lessen the burden of getting the parts fabricated in aluminium. Just for the structure alone I have had quotes from $700 to $2500

Build one first, see how it works, iron out some issues, wait for money to start coming in big time again, then build a dream machine

iron out i did, was kind of an old project,
while trying the other axis last night, i finally give up
on my original ideas of having the y axis on the z axis.
          foresee too much problem.
its back to a x-y table design.

for structure, aluminum extrusions seem good to work with
cut to length and join using angle plate bolt and nut.
          adjustable too

Its a Great day, lets fly, crawl, and fight.

This is what I plan to do. It was originally planned with 15mm aluminimum plates in mind. The gantry was done for me by a mexican gentleman, Edgar, I met on cnczone. Very helpful guy. I've completed the design with the z-axis and a change to the way the gantry is mounted on the table but lost all my files when window update broke my system - I panic and accidentally deleted the all my research on this project while trying to do a backup... Still trying to recover some files which I sent out to Edgar during our discussion. But the rest all gone...

Public Listed company... Imagine going over and ask for a couple of pieces of aluminium plates...

                    Group buy maybe?

Are they costly? Mike, thanks for the direction.

Why do you want to do that? You can use your mill to cut out parts to build a router though the bigger pieces may not be possible.

i'm restricted to smaller pieces of work, even after spending a lot on upgrades for extended x and y.

Your sherline can be use to cut out motor mount, ballnut carriers etc. leaving the bigger pieces to machinist.

Why don't we get together to approach a machine shop to see if we can get ourselves a good deal. With more, we maybe able to pay less.
