cncuser: That sounds, will contact you when I finalized my design.

Wongster: Did you check out this thread? Since your going with a single x-axis screw you might want to implement this for better rigidity:
      http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...hlight=racking

Also, for those who's looking for a cheap cnc machine but do not want to DIY, Lumenlab has a base model for US$499:
      http://lumenlab.com/store/robloks/mi...ics/micro.html

Another company offers one for a base price of US$599:
      http://www.probotix.com/FireBall_v90_cnc_router_kit/

All in all, I wld say cnc has gotten more affordable to us average joes.

Yup. Read thru that thread. I think rigidity may not be a big problem due to the size of my design (footprint around 500x500mm).

I like the look of the Zenbot and the V90 Fireball. I'm on the Fireball's yahoo group. The builder really take pride in his work. I also like the look of the micRo. Cute...

Came across this page on a very simple DIY cnc machine. Looks great & very inspiring that one can make good working model out of very little material.

Looks good. I'll check out how the x and z parts are connected.

Frankly, I've seen so many that I'm very tempted to dump all those things I've bought and follow one of those I like...

Still deliberating about the design & cost. I see a pay cut approaching with full vengence on the horizon, the company will use this opportunity to wack our pay. Now must think thrice b/f spending, sigh...

Got some linear slides - XYZ axis. Don't have to worry about backlash problem.

                            5 phase stepper motors

My control box - where my drivers, breakout board and power supplies are housed.

i just fab my motor adapter today, tape the wrong hole size
need to drill my motor mounting holes to fit.

Still waiting for some parts to power it up to test the motion before i fab the other parts. Hope everything goes right!

May I know how much you spent on the actuators? Look expensive.

                                look expensive too.

just for fun, i did a bit of work today too.
lazy to drill so i use double side tape again.
works fine but i still have a bend lead screw.
