Isnt it weird that in the early 1900's the inventors were trying to build a single rotor helicopter. But now, its those multi-rotor that got ppl interested in r/c.

In those days, they don't have solid state gyros and accelerometers like in modern Flight Controllers to accurately control the response and power of 4 motors or more simultaneously.
