I was looking for a heavy lift multicopter with aesthetic pleasing look. And I found it!!! Its the Align M480L. Its huge and lots of space + options. I was glad that it now comes in kit form as I prefer to use my favourite brand flight controller.

After watching the Align build video a few times, I started my build. I completed my build and ready to fly in 3.5hrs, including soldering bullet connectors for the FC and XT60 to XT150 adapter for the 6S batteries. Also being familiar with my favourite brand flight controller, set up was a breeze.

After maiden flight photo. Flight was as expected, stable. However, I set the low voltage alarm too high so have a rather short flight time of 2mins. Have corrected that.

However there was a defect on one of the rotor arms. The clear plastic has cracked on the inside. Will need to claim warranty for a new clear plastic. Lucky I bought my M480L locally. But this does not affect the performance of the quad at all.

As I am not using Align's flight controller, I was not able to get the retracts to work. The retracts require 12V. So I split the signal wire and plug the red and brown to the ALign PCU for the power supply and signal wire to my rx. It does not work at all. I tried using the servo tester with the signal wire. It still does not work.

Anyone got any idea how to make the retracts work?

Only two pins are used (i.e. the ground and + pins). Apply 8.4V to 12V to it. Reversed polarity will make the retract move the other way round.

                        Normal Position
Ground Pin (black wire) -> Connect to 0V
+ Pin (centre pin, red wire) -> Connect to +12V

How do I do this remotely while flying?

You need a RC remote control board for retract (or landing gear controller) to do that. Need to set aside a tx/rx channel for this function.

                              Something like this? : http://www.hobbyking.cm/hobbyking/st...ff_Switch.html

But this one cannot handle 12v.

The one you suggested will not work:

                                You need something like this:

You need a controller that is able to reverse the 12V polarity applied to the retracts when the assigned tx switch is flipped.
