    Hippie Boat - Victoria

    .
    . I was a happy man.
    . I have Victoria.
. She is nice... but.... she is not public transport material.
. If you take her on the bus or MRT, people will stare and talk.
    .
. One evening when I was alone in bed, I had this sudden urge to
    . be unfaithful to her.
. Drifting between altered states of conciousness... I dreamt of
    . having another boat.
    .
. Despite having no skill or experience, I decided to make one
. from scratch and call it Hippie Boat.
. I am sure it will turn out like crap... but with a hippie concept
. I will get away with it.
    .
. Besides, I don't think Victoria would mind.

    Hippie Boat - Materials

. I am on board a ship... materials are limited.
. I have pieces of 2.5mm low grade plywood laying around... I'll use that.
. Boat plans ??? What is that ???
. I'll just whack and be creative as I go along.
. Tools ??? I'll use knife, ruler and sandpaper.
    .

Hippie Boat - Coming along just fine

      .
. I have cut and glued the bottom and sides.
. Looked good by my standards.
. My standards are low by the way.... a simple man simple brain.
. I told myself... Be Positive... if it floats... its a boat.
. If it sinks... its a submarine.
. Don't cry over it... there is always Victoria waiting.
      .

        Hippie Boat - Big Butt

        .
        . Looked good I said ???
        . What an IDIOT !!!
. While installing the keel, I noticed that the backside ( you good people
. call it transom ) is huge... plenty displacement.
. On water the backside will rise higher than the front end... sure "Tonggek" one.
. Picture a sweet girl in short skirt and high heels walking around the CBD office area.
. "Tonggek" on a girl is nice... "Tonggek" on a boat is not.
. "Tonggek" on a guy in high heels is also not nice.... Ok... that is very disturbing.
        .
. Is there any guy in high heels at Tampines Quarry?
. There is where I usually play.
. Now I have to wear running shoes and carry a whistle if I go there.
        .

Hippie Boat - Tonggek go away

          .
. Waterproofed the insides with ThistleBond epoxy.
. Not the right type of epoxy... don't care... it is a hippie boat.
. The epoxy took a whole day to set... this... I "Beh Tahan".
          .
. Installed lead ballast at the bottom of the boat.
. It was enough to give it stability but the "Tonggek" was still there.
. Placed vecro tape on the ballast to hold the battery and radio, and also
. to hold more ballast to even out the "Tonggek" later.
          .

Hippie Boat - Top and Bottom coming together

            .
. This is so exciting... I have put the top and bottom together.
. Smart idea to use simple weight to press down on the deck while
. waiting for the epoxy to set.
. But not smart because I work on a ship and I forgot to secure Hippie.
. If the ship rolled... sure bang balls one if Hippie fell off and cracked open.
            . Luckily nothing bad happened.
            .

              Hippie Boat - It's a Boat

              .
              . It's a boat!!!
              . Odd looking... but it's a boat.
. The canopy is too far back... Boh Pien... wanted to cover the rudder steering arm.
. The keel is slightly off centre... Boh Pien... already said builder has no skill.
. The boat is ugly...... you watch your mouth!!!
              .

                Hippie Boat - It's a Sailboat

                .
. Must remember.... cut holes before installing the top deck.
. Must remember.... plan where you want to put the servos before you cut the holes.
                .
. Planning to use the cheap 9gm plastic servos from Tower Pro.
. Need to modify one for continuous rotation for the winch.
. Need to fabricate a small drum for the winch.
                .
. Used 5mm carbon fibre tubes for the rudder shaft housing and mast.
. Must remember.... measure before cutting.
                .

Hippie Boat - Size of Rudder

                  .
. This is to be a very portable boat.
. I only want to carry the boat and radio to the play gound.
. I will not even bring the stand along.
. When out of water, the boat will sit on its backside like a rocket.
. I had to trim the rudder so it will not be hitting the ground when the boat sits.
                  .

Hippie Boat - Colour the Boat

                    .
. I am terrible at colouring.
. My grade is equal to those from Primary Two classes.... Pai Seh...
. Anyway.. this is a Hippie Boat... No Sweat... anything goes.
                    .
. Ok... I admit the sail is a bit small.

Hippie Boat - Children of the 60s

                      .
. I can't wait to try Hippie out.
. Left Singapore 2 weeks ago... now in Penang.
. In three weeks time I may be in Sri Lanka.
. If only I have my radio with me, I would launch Hippie right here in Penang waters.
                      . Karma for deserting Victoria.
                      .
. When I do get back to Singapore... one fine windy day... I'll maiden
. Hippie at Pasir Ris Beach.
. I'll play Deep Purple thru my earphones.
. Hippie and I will be as one... No Sweat... Don't care... Peace man...
                      .

                        Hippie Boat - Birthplace

                        .
. Hippie Boat was born here on this ship, the ASEAN Restorer.
. Started building Hippie on 14th Aug 2014, a day after the ship left Singapore for Penang.
                        . Completed ( without servos ) 26th Aug 2014.
                        . L 39cm x W 8.5cm x H 20cm
. Weight : Donno ( cannot find a damn weighing machine on this ship )...
                        .
                        . Hippie will be sluggish.
. Micro Magic, IOM and turtles may pass him by.... no problem... it's just another day in paradise.
