As i see it, there will always be two main types of ppl in NS. People who accept that NS can teach them skills that they can put into practice. These people will work hard and train hard and i am guessing, are rewarded with good postings. Then there are people who would just go to any extent to skip NS (MC etc.) and refuse to just take things head on. These kind of ppl will just keep whining about how they wasted two years and how much they could have earned from the stock market in the 2 years together with their parents.

Do tell me if this is not the reality. Would love to know more.

Remember we are surounded by not so friendly countries for all these years. If our defends become weak and something not so good happen, I really hope the money earn in the two years in the stock market can save the country. Reality is, we are small and vulnerable.

Yup. The whinners form the the bulk of at first. But when you become reservist you will see that the whinners will also group up- that is if you do happen to join the same group or team or battalion you served NS and you get a chance to witness how your platoon mates evolve and mature every year. It's a whole package thing. Sadly speaking, in my time, it was some of the most educated guys, the ones from the "r" schools and the ones who had a chance to go medical school who seem to immediately think NS is a waste of time. Many of them broke down quickly and developed escapist mentality in the first 3 months of specialisation training after coming to unit from BMT. Very upsetting and morale defeating when you see people like that start to calculate every single thing and not have team spirit. (and its not like you always have a choice not to have team spirit, some tasks, really need group effort or 100% group effort one... and it's not because of punishment or whatnot, it's just work that has to be done....)

But when you do bump into a group of like minded people, and get to serve NS with them... it becomes an ultimate ride. This people really "got your back" like they say in the movies...

IPPT is just part of the fitness programme and does not make up the whole NS.

How about the schools when it comes to IPPT??

For my concern, let the government to decide... They have tons of professionals and statics.

          But always screw up!!! Lol....

Those in civil service should ask: are we currently doing things right or doing the right thing? Whilst ippt may not be the penultimate yardstick, also cannot make such a radical change mah...

Anyway, those who are involved in the new ippt please post yr experience n if ok, yr results.

One of the reason for the change is that the new structure enable one to be able to practice on our own. Eg. We do not have chin up bar in most places. USA military has similar 3 station except slightly longer 2 mile run instead of 2.4 km.

not true. many housing estates including private residential areas have exercise corners that provide chin-up bars. anyway, can easily install one at home, it's inexpensive and easy to install, prob cheaper than a clone fbl gyro.

To our taller and heavier brothers, please be careful when you install a door-frame chin up bar... if you have to bend your legs at the knees while you are doing your chin up, the bar may slip and you will smash your knee caps.

Chin up, non-fixture type is only $18 plus from Qoo. I bought one. Load-bearing... I think it's best if you are less than 90kg.

Non-fixture type can be dangerous if you jerk back and forth doing chin-ups... (which by the way is not standard, doesn't help u train your back, arms and shoulders properly and harms your back in the long term- don't ask me how I know.) It's more worth it to start with proper form. Many videos available on youtube on proper pull up and chinup form. It should emphasise on keeping your 'wings' opened or aligned, and should teach you how to estimate how far apart to place both hands to train different areas of your arms and back.) Get rather for the thick calluses . hahahahaha
