    hk 500gt headspeed

    hello,

im busy here preparing a hk500gt that i could take over second hand.
now im looking into my throttle curves and the settings i should use.

    with a calculator i come to a head speed of around 2350 rpm @ 4.2/cell and 2000@3.7/cell
the only guideline i could find is in the original trex 500 fly bar heli, and they are talking in the range of 2900rpm

data as far i can find on my heli,

    1300kv motor
    13 tooth pinion
    162 tooth mean gear
    using a 60A esc
    6S 3000mah lipo

i won't be using it for any planned 3d action, only hoovering and field circuits for now.
so i won't go extreme on the pitch settings as well, -3 to + 7
so will the headspeed do at a 100% throttle curve?

i like to fly in idle up. i tried flying both in idle up and with a 0-100% throttle curve. with a small mcpx that i use to play with different settings in my remote. but i find the idle up the most pleasant to fly.

    thanks in advance

Erik, methinks the 60a esc may not be sufficient. U can try Mr Mel's headspeed calculator for starters. My mind is a little screwed after a day's meeting. Perhaps experts could chime in to help?

Base on the data you gave us, I did a calculation: 22.2v * 1300kv*13=375180. 375180/162 and you have 2316rpm assuming 100% efficiency. Multiply by 80 percent will be 1852rpm.
My trex 500 running at about 2600rpm.

        Thanks for the answers

Been looking at other forums as well and found there that the scale heli fly with as head speed as low as 1700,
So I should be oke. I've seen the heli fly before. Only thing left is to try it out this weekend, if I'm not happy I'm going for a 1600kv motor

U no need to change motor lah. Just change the pinion to higher teeth to increase the RPM.

U can fly at 1800rpm but u must be experienced enough. Esp when it is windy. Control is a bit sluggish, recovery from error/mistake is slow.

I have two 500 heli, one 1900kv motor running on 4S and another 1400kv motor running on 6S. Both RPM :
          Normal curve - 2300rpm.
          Idle-up1 (Governor mode) - 2400rpm.
          Idle-up2 (Governor mode) - 2500rpm.

so if i change to a 14 pinion that should do the magic,
            some calc

            full lipo
            25.2*1300*14= 458640
            458640/162=2831 rpm @ 100% effeciency
            2494*0.80= 2264 rpm

            lipo at 3.7v cell
            22.2*1300*14= 404040
            404040/162=2494 rpm @ 100% effeciency
            2494*0.80= 1995 rpm

going to look around for it!

            thanks guys
