Hi Adnan, I presume the competition will go ahead regardless of the PSI?

              hi HH,

I have mulling it over the past few days regarding the quality of air (or lack thereof). And here's the official stance for the F3K contest.

If the air quality is below 100psi, the qualifying will run its full course. A flyoff will only occur if the air quality remains below 150psi at the time of the flyoff. If not, the scores from the qualifying will determine the winners.

If the air quality is between 100-150psi, there will be only 3 initial qualifying rounds played out. There will be no flyoff in this case to reduce the exposure to the haze.

If the air quality is above 150psi, a decision will be made on the ground if the contest will continue with a vote among the participants. An alternative will be flying to three rounds of shorter, modified tasks to get a result.

The haze definitely threw a wrench in the works, and its causing all sorts of trouble. It's actually very similar to the conditions in Beijing last year. I felt light headed and my lips and mouth were dry. Leading up to the contest, I would recommend going on a strict regiment of water consumption to remain hydrated. Also I would like to suggest wearing face masks for the contests to reduce irritation to the throat and nose.

Hopefully, the weather turns out better this weekend and we will have a fruitful contest.

              Cheers,
              Adnan

Hi Adnan, I agree with the official stance. Just to note though, that N95 masks are actually rather hard to get currently, most places are completely sold out. (other surgical masks/non-N95 masks are useless). So there's a chance that even if we wanted to wear masks, it might not be available.

Due to the unhealthy levels of the haze, I regret to inform that the F3K contest of the National Championships (and thus the second part of the National Championships itself) has been postponed to a later date. Even with winds projected to change direction over the weekend, we cannot assure that the haze will be lifted.

The F3K contest is slated to be postponed to 7 Jul 2013 (hopefully the haze will have been lifted by then). I understand that this will affect the schedule of all participants but I do hope that we will still have a strong turn out for the F3K contest at the later date. Let's take this opportunity to spend more time with our loved ones (indoors) and get some more practice sessions in (once the air is back to at least moderate levels).

                  Regards,
                  Adnan

Looks like air quality has droped to moderate levels. But it might be shortlived once the winds go back to it's normal direction. Hope it won't affect the competition on the 7th Jul.

Actually, I would hope for less sun but lots of thermals. Then it would be super fun.
