Since the servos will have a maximum rotation angle of 120 degrees, if we use some form of flexible rubber cone, we can just seal up the whole thing giving minimum resistance.
And you guys know what kind of rubber I am thinking of using? Starts with a C ....

If it doesnt hold the linkage, this is what the pro submariners use at the control rod exit. There is an o-ring sealing inside, suitable for 1/8" rod. Pack of 4 for about USD15. Not sure if we can find it here.

Other designs use thick heavy grease at the rod exits, may be a cheaper option for us.

Think we have to order from either europe or US if we really want to go down this road. I know subconcepts subshop sells them for USD23 a pair.

Anyway, the most difficult one is the drive shaft. Any ideas?

Don't know whether this will work for the main shaft. And whether vaseline will leak and contaminate the water. If so, we cannot use vaseline and have to look at some polymer gels, else cannot use in swimming pools

Drive shaft shouldnt b a prob, think can use the normal stuffing box/shaft system filled with thick silicon oil, but not sure if silicon oil ok for swimming pool. In any case, there is very little leakage.

check out the threads on rcgroups

This one is a conversion but some ideas are interesting ...

i like the dive panel bit, looks like we don't need to overspec our design
i don't like the awkward rudder controls

Hav thought of this way...using silicon tube, suitable for less powerful motor, may b we just use twin 280 setup, but the size of the sub will have to be scaled down.

Initial design to try out...omitted rudder setup for simplicity.

                      Watertightness considerations.

Rotor has an RTR boat with twin props selling at $31, thought of taking out the propulsion system for the sub. Cheaper than buying 2 sets of traxxas props and shaft systems which can set us back by at least $80.

Dey! I'll go take that ... consider my contribution? Give me this weekend k

I'm thinking front dive panels may be more effective though?

We can have a sub destroyer hunt at punggol pond

So what is the plan now ..... still on for the scale body or ....just the tube.... .....I can help to build something .....not sure what BTW do have a old radio system doing nothing ....can use for this project if you guys dont mind....real old almost 10yrs now.... still working

How you guys want to build the water tight compartment ? Using those plastic project box from SLT ?
