    daddyHOBBY Heli Clinic

I've been going around helping members here to do setups and checks....

No complains on my part but I'd like to suggest something

daddyHOBBY's web subscription will be till Dec 05...after which we have to renew our hosting with our host. We will thus need some $$ to maintain the site. In our plans, we are also looking to have a bigger space for us to host our member's gallery, much like runryder.com....all these need $$ to do.

We will also be looking at organising Mega Meets every quarter and also ad hoc meets for warbirds, EP planes, heli etc etc and will look forward to having some fringe benefits for members attending the meets

Thus, I'm looking to have a team of members who will volunteer to help others setup their helis and planes, be it nitro or Electrics.

The down side is, this will not come free, I will work out an amount which is affordable for members who want but don't know how to fix / setup their birds

Before I firm the charges I'll like to hear from members what your point of views on this is.

I dont mind paying a small sum but...some s'poreans are very ...when they pay, they demand . Some terms n conditions must be made clear and the liabilities as well.

As we know,$$ causes most of human's problems.

Yes, the Server is located in the US (co-located with a Company that is the Data Center for NYSE). The server is owned by a Malaysian and I have bought bandwidth and diskspace from him.

                      Pay for set up? Sure!

As a complete newbie, and someone who's been lurking on this forum for a while before signing up, I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I'd be happy to pay to have someone help me set up a plane or heli.

I echo some comments of others that we have to be careful in setting the expectations correct - otherwise, there is a risk that members who volunteer their time to help others might face difficulties (as a result of unreasonable expectations).

Maybe the way to go is to organise "training sessions", where people learn to set up their own planes/helis, or whatever. And what will be covered during the sessions should be clearly spelt out. This way, I think more people will learn skills, rather than relying on a small group of people to do things for them. It's the same idea as teaching a person how to fish.

                      Just my half cent's worth.

This was what I tried to do before. But it seems some newbies are too busy to do things for themselves. Sometimes, even if I teach them they forget. It's really not easy to "disciple" or teach. Then there are the ones that want me to set up, even when they know what to do, then how? Personally I used to do all these for free. But now, having learnt that time is more precious commodity, and that I myself had to make sacrifices from other aspects of my life to learn heli, why can't I expect the same of others? As the hokkiens say, "want cheap, want good, want big sized deal", I guess there a select group of people that gravitate towards this idea. I wish to bring up this fact: It is NOT to set up helis, whether NITRO or ELECTRICS. You cannot pay peanuts and expect not to get monkeys.

Then there's this other conflicting issue that this is just a hobby and that everyone are "friends". Friends, true, but then if that is so you have to show some concern and appreciate the time of the person you are seeking help from. There always has to be a trade off somewhere. I really hope that some of the "new-bies" can have more realistic expectations. There is a fine line between help, and service. I have met with some that try to exploit this line. Of course, then I've the whole of elite and handsome blokes here who I would step out of the line to help. That's because they are first and foremost MY FRIENDS & BROTHERS.

Remember, you bought the heli! No one is responsible for it. It belongs to you and you will be the Pilot! There is no such thing as a veteran pilot who does not know how to repair his own plane, heli or car. If you want to be grow in this hobby, you always need to spend some time and do some work, or pay a price.

                              Hi all,

Allow me to join in the forum and share my 2 cents worth. I've been lurking around here quite recently, but I'm not new to the world of RC. I've tried land/sea and Air, both helis and planes. I started out on my own with a hirobo shuttle back in 1998, and now fly a couple of WW2 electric planes with brushless motors.

If there's a heli/plane clinic setup and people are willing to pay, I can tell you I won't mind being one of the 'trainers'.

The only problem I see are those who expect that if they pay, they will be able to fly and won't crash. No matter how much instruction one gets, it's aptitude and attitude that will determine success or failure.
