I think that WTB T-Maxx thread is getting way off topic. :L
So here's to start some new threads in the ever quiet Car/Truck section of the forum.
Mad Armour, why not you invite your friends who are in the RCTech over here to talk about MTs?
:)

Nope...never tried buggy except for a very old Tamiya Grasshopper II that I used to own.. :)
Was in to road cars, but never competitively, and now to MTs. I think they're the ultimate in RC Cars.... :L
Runs virtually on any type of surface.....except water of course... :L
You don't need a dedicated track to play.
BTW, can the buggys run smoothly on the cow-grass? Most of
the empty spaces in SGP are in cowgrass. I think only the MTs can run on them without a hitch. :)

Which buggy you have?:)

Actually beside size of wheels, and being a 4WD, buggies are not too much diff from monster trucks right?
I heard that a OFNA Dominator can be modded into a buggy as well.
But I also heard that the Dominator's suspension are not 'monster-truck-standard'. So how do you fully categorise a RC chassis/setup to be a true-blue MT or buggy?

I don't think there's such thing as a definitive MT. One constant - BIG wheels!:)
Dominator is a 'truggy', meaning it's chassis is derived from a buggy. Similar MT's are Thunder Tiger EK-4.
Advantages of a buggy chassis is obviously in the handling department. What it gains in handling, it loses in crawling ability.
Over rough terrains, it's low ground clearence loses to Savage, T-Maxx and Mad Force.

In all sense, Dominator is also a MT. Dominator is a nice MT to play. Corners really well and pretty hard to flip over due to it's low CG.

not really lah, mine is not kanai edition one...me still poor student...IMHO, if want road car should juz go for this road cars using sponge tyres...a buggy with road tyre really not that much grip...but on sand and grass, buggy is king

Kyosho Buggies is creme-de-la-creme of buggies man. Doesn't matter if it's Kanai or not.
Apparently parts is a bit difficult to get nowadays.:(

Hard to flip? I always flipped mine after making corner runs at rather high speed... :L
BTW, i dunno how people rave about wheelie-ing the Dominator...I just couldn't get mine to do that....Gave up after a while... :L
Mad Armour
18-07-2004, 09:25 AM
Well, there is a limit to the law of physics!:L :L :L Maybe I should rephrase.....harder to flip.;)
Wheeling a Dom? Those guys must be leaning the engine to the max!:S The wheelie king is Kyosho's Mad Force.
Anybody remember "hotshort" (late 80s) I still have one in my store room :D even those it may never run again as there is no spare part for it :L
Oh yah a KingCab too..... all the oooooooolddddd staff ....

Old stuff are vintage stuff...i think there's someone in RCTech.net who's crazy to buy all vintage RC cars...
You might be able to get some $$$ out of them for your flying addiction... :L
One addiction after another, we never fail to impress those around us :L they sometimes ask me: don't u get bored with it? Nope, the more you play the longer you stay.... to avoid burnout, can try switching to watersports for a change:D but still R/C of course:ha: :ha:
Anyone tried the TT SSK Monster Truck?:D
Mad Armour

Pretty cheap at $380 for a RTR MT. Had a close look at it a while back. Built quality doesn't look impressive and I think this MT comes with bushings instead of BBs. But at such a price, might worth a try.:)
Any RTR nitro trucks that is $200-$300? only concern is parts availability.
Mad Armour
16-09-2004, 12:31 AM
The cheapest nitro MT's (non-RTR) is
Sin Yih (http://rotor.com.sg/car/sy_main.htm) from rotor. Not solid cars but I must say, good for bashing around.
$200 - $300 cannot get you any nitro RTR.

$200-$300 can buy the ever entertaining MiniZ Monster....quite fun to be running it around in my office and at home.

So the SSK is tougher or the Sin Yih is ? (more likely to substain knocks etc)

Can't really answer your question as I dun have the SSK. I think it depends on how you play the cars. If you are one of those who likes to launch the MT as high as possible, breakage is very common.
As a rule, off roaders are more robust than onroads.
I actually have the Sin Yih 1/10 and I haven't broken any parts yet.
Thanks guys... Now I need to really sit down and think which way to go during my days without a Rappy... :( (borrow quote from Ammo)

Nic, getting a cheapo FP micro heli would have better fun factor while living wihtout a rappy.....lesser repair cost also...
i dunno how others feel about this, but i personally think that after you've flown a RC nitro heli, nothing can beat the fun & thrill factor, especially not 2/4 wheelers. :)
Having trying to fly a used Dragonfly...
and a R30...
No.. I am not interested in getting a FP micro.
My other alternative is actually the T-Rex (Zap is out... cause I don't like shopping for parts in SHS).. but considering the cost of repairs.. it is going to be very similar to my R30...
That's why I think it (very likely).. it will be just foam planes for a while.. till my life is back normal.
9VDXN
16-09-2004, 11:27 AM
Heck...why not just keep your R30 since you're gonna use the money to buy something else?! Just dun fly it until u struck 4D or when situation gets back to normal?? :L
Haha... nay... once I crash the R30.. it is going to be another $100... when I crash a GWS foamie.. it is going to be $3.
Crashing during learning is part and parcel of this hobby.

16-09-2004, 11:38 AM
Oh well, true....if the bird is there, you'll always can't resist the temptation to get it flying... :L
Also.. it is not good to store the engine without occasional running... I make it a point to put at least 1-2 tanks per week.

if you are looking for a MT from traxxas, do consider the Tmaxx or Revo. For a review on Tmaxx, u can check with Mad Armour. Brand new, first start is totally no sweat man

Nitro Rustler is a 2WD Stadium truck. Since it has the same engine as the T-Maxx, it will be FAST!:D
It also has a lower ground clearence compared to it's MT alter-ego, the Nitro Stampede. You'll have a better handling truck but may not clear the rough as well as the Stampede.
IMO, Traxxas is very well made so I'll go with the Rustler compared to the SSK.
Where do you intend to buy it from?:sneaky:
Cheers!

If Rustler then Rotor..
haven't decide.. but more or less narrow down to these 2 already.
Mad Armour
15-02-2005, 12:42 PM
I guess you've done your homework.:)
Rustler is $510.70 after discount from rotor. Great price for a RTR. BTW, you need a 6-cell stick pack to run the EZ-Starter.
Thanks for reminiding. I missed that one out.I didn't want a EP because I didn't want another 3 sets of batts to worry about. But I didn't notice the EZ starter is on SC.. all this while I thought it is on AA.... :(
Mad Armour
15-02-2005, 01:17 PM
At least you don't need a 3300 to power the EZ-starter.:L Any cheapo 1700NiCD stick pack will do. Or you can solder AA x 6!:D
Frankly speaking, I think the EZ-Starter mechanism is damn cool. Shove it into the hole, press and watch her go! Sure beats pulling your socks off the pull starter.:L :L :L
That's why I look at Traxxas and HPI only.
And after going down to Tai Sing... I am happier with Traxxas.. since I perfers shops that have fixed prices.
tamiya is releasing a TNX PRO RTR!!!! march 2005
this would be the racer of all monster trucks!!!
time to save up .hehehhee

maybe i am just plain silly.
anyway.. if i carry back a Tmaxx now.. my wife will be furious!!!

This site is also good and I found out that the Savage comes in Kit form.... unlike the T-Maxx and T-Revo.
Tmaxx is nice..
but Revo would be better. it seem to be kinda an improve+totally revamp MT taking in some things that are helpful and common... e.g. charging cable....
My first mod to my Tmaxx...
- making the EZstarter cable to the glow plug bigger to accomodate OS8 plugs
- adding a changing cable to the switch for the receiver batts
- adding in a receiver batt monitor...
lot of bling blings for Tmax... so ample chance for you to strip it apart... add in the blings... :L

Hi all,
Search the www for two days cannot find a single review on SSK, anyone with any links to the video or reviews?
Wanted a staduim truck, but HPI 18SS are too expensive Traxx Rustler is 2WD, the cheap and looks good on specs will be SSK V2.
Anyone have other suggestion?
BTW, Rustler is 2WD, will it handle like cr*p on dirt?
Regards

IMO, SSK represents good value for money. 4WD RTR at <$400! :up Looks a bit flimsy to me but hey, it's only a 1/10 MT, so cannot be compared to the 1/8. Power will be less than Traxxas. Handling wise, I think should be like the 1/8 big bros, flip on quick turn..... :L :L :L
My friend bought the SSK but I haven't seen it in action. Er....2 weeks later he gave it to his daughter and bought himself the Savage 25 instead. :z

Hey guys,
Bought the SS4.6. I have a few question to ask you guys.
1. Can i run the SS4.6 using a 25% nitro fuel?
2. how to run in the engine? First time using a brand new engine
3. If i buy the reverse gear do i need to install another servo.
4. Is the spektrum receiver a 3 channel or 2 channel receiver. If i need to install another servo for the reverse gear.

1. Yes
2. Think the manual should have a section on rinning in the engine.
4. 3 Channel.

I think that WTB T-Maxx thread is getting way off topic. :L
So here's to start some new threads in the ever quiet Car/Truck section of the forum.
Mad Armour, why not you invite your friends who are in the RCTech over here to talk about MTs?
:)
Someone can help ! compare Lossi Lst and savage ss.
Which is better. :) :D
