    Overheated battery compartment?

    Hi all,

Had bought a Kyosho FW-05T recently and I think I'm like attracting all the bad luck or something (or bad karma... if you don't know anything and don't read up that much)

Just earlier this week I'd purchased the M11, a few things just happened, hope I'm the only one who gets these:

    1) Unscrewed the cover for radio box, the screw nearest to fuel tank is "unscrewing" but nothing happens. IE screw does NOT rise up.

    2) the connectors for my stock servo/receiver/everything does *NOT* fit the ones provided in M11. Fine, I thought I'd just replace everything then.

    3) the sanwa servos don't exactly fit cleaning to my chasis -- there are some rubber thingy (and inserted the golden 'washers')which I'd attached to the servos -- the servo at the steering screws in nicely (I hope); the throttle one isn't so lucky, the one at the front does not screw in properly/securely while the one at the back is able to dig deep in.

    4) all set! then suddenly one part dropped out... unable to find a match in the list of components in the manual. but car able to move properly...

    5) And was happily playing just now then it just died on me -- engine still purring... but no control, whatsoever. Quickly opened up the compartment, omg! the wires from the switch/receiver/battery are *MELTED* and the battery feels hot! What happened? I rev too much? Was playing for half a tank only, with a few tight squeezes at time.... Did the battery emit too much heat? Or the radio box kinda trapped the heat?

All in all, quite a lot of problems eh? But the M11 does look impressive and nice, am reading the manual and phew... don't quite fully understand its capabilities, or don't know how to fully exploit it!

    1) You've stripped the plastic. Most probably from screwing in too tight in the beginning. Remove other screws first, then slowly unscrew the stripped screw, at the same time pulling up the reciever box. Once you have successfully removed the screw, use a larger self tapping screw (M4).This time handle with care.

    2) Many different connectors but all same shape. Just use a cutter and trim to the required shape.

    3) You don't have to use the rubber grommets provided if you don't have space. Just use different screw. A M3 capscrew with washer should fo the trick.

    4) Perhaps you can post a pic of the dropped part.

    5) Could be the servoes drawing too much current from the batt, causing the puny wires and poor connectors of the AA batt holder to heat up. Changing to a reciever pack will help.

    Hope it helps. Have fun!
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

Did u set the EPA properly on the car? If u ran it stock straight out of the box. Chances are ur throttle servo will move way beyond the engine carb linkage thus causing unnessary load on the servo.

I run the M11 on a 05S. The VX servo might be taller then the stock servo. I was suing Futaba 3001 and the VX was taller thus i had to change the throttle servo spacers to a bigger one.
No problems with the steering servo as they mount on their side.

I'd managed to remove the box by lifting up and unscrewing at the same time... phew that was tiring! Sorry ah, those M3/M4 -- it's common screw standards?

If I don't use those rubber grommets , I'm worried something would break with all those vibrations and stuff ;(

As for the dropped part, I'd found it! It's oriented in another 'direction'.. haa

Had fixed it, it all arrived coz I cannot remove the radio box properly. So I'd to shaft the wires from the steering servo blindly... and unable to shaft them cleanly, so some part will come into contact with the moving gears after a while

That led to short circuit -> heated compartment.

Hope this won't happen again. Replaced with a new set of servos... luckily receiver no spoil ;p

        Thanks!

So how would I know what is the "limit' for EPA? Any indications?

Do u guys always these ready uh? servo spacers, m3, m4, etc?

PS: on ur M11, there's some stickers on the transmitter module and another number on ur controller as well, what do they mean uh?

These are metric screws, M3 is 3mm diameter, M4 is 4mm diameter and so forth. So if you buy a M3 x 10, you'll have a screw with 3mm diameter and 10mm length.

If I don't use those rubber grommets , I'm worried something would break with all those vibrations and stuff

Haven't had any servoes brake due to vibrations yet. In that case, you'll need to change servo.

Glad you've sorted out the hot batteries problem.

I am clueless abt the numbers but i assume they must be the serial number for the mdule and the transmitter. I think mine is still stuck on the transmitter and module.

You know you are stressing the servo when at the extreme position, the servo makes noise.

Be careful where u run your servo wire. Esp with the stock box of the 05T. The spur gear gets too close for comfort with the steering servo wire.

Yea, will ask around and see if anyone has any idea.
Btw, how long does ur batt last on 1 full charge? for tx and rx? my tx seems to die off quickly... not fully charged?

Yeap, got some low humming noiseee when my inputs are are the extremes. Tuned the EPA down to ard 70% for throttle, 80% for brake i think.

Yeap, the FW-05T stock box is quite cumbersome -- the proximity of the steering servo wire to the gear.. phew

Mad Armour: thanks for the explanation , too!

To tune throttle EPA, remove the filter so that you can have a clear view of the carburettor opening. As long as the opening is maximum, that's the EPA. Anything more is redundant and will only stress the servo.

I would recommend you cut a slot some where on the side of the box where the hinge of the access door is at to run your steering servo thru. That way you don't need to run it next to the Spur gear. I did that until i changed to 05R deck.

My M11 Tx run for approx 3 hours before the low batt starts to beep. I charge my Tx batt at 1.3Amp. I don't use the slow charger provided. This is the timing from my 1st charge. it should last longer on the next few charge.

My Rx batt is only 900Mah and it last abt an hour.

05R deck? the radio box? that one is more 'ergonomic'?
