    it is said that i should connect a 12V car batt to this charger to charge my nimh, but can i connect a 3amp (max) stepdown transformer to the charger? is the input amp too low?

    Hi

    I have that charger also. That charger so far perform very well for me....in NiMH.

    OK.. To supply power supply to it, it accept 12V or 15V without any problem. U can connect to supply of 12V 3A so long as u are charging not more than 3A.

    Depend on what NiMH u going to charge. Its recommendation is to charge 1C or higher. When it reaches 45Minutes (or when it is fully charge...depend on which ever come first), it will go trickle charge. With that, if u going to charge 3300mA NiMH, I would recommend u to connect to higher current supply. U can use those computer power supply instead.

      so super-hornet, how do you go abt using a computer supply to charge?
      since most new computer powersupply comes with a switch controlled by the motherboard. how can i go abt shorting the wires on the connectors so that the Power supply will switch on?

        For ATX power supply, all u need is to short +v5 Sense to ground or to +5V (Try short to ground first)

            Hi

            U have to check with your computer power supply label. It should have some indication over there. Anyway, if u see more than 1 orange wire then it should not be. The sense wire should be only one wire.

            OK...
            Black = Ground
            Red = +5V
            Yellow = +12V
            Blue = -5V I think
            White = -12V I think
            The rest forgotten liau.

              hey plasma

              Take a look at this URL. It got information regarding about ATX power supply connector.

              I make a mistake... It is Power On wire instead of Sense... hehe
              Here is what it says:
              The power supply is instructed to energize the other power leads throughout the system when the Power On lead (the green wire) is grounded. Without grounding the green wire on the power supply, you will not be able to test ANY of the power leads on the power supply except for 5V standby.
