If you got a Modular ssytem like the 3pk or M8, yeah is just plug and play. That is you change the module.

But i assume you are not and just using a RTR radio. So its not possible.

But the question is why you want to change?

AM is shorter range. FM longer.

my experience is, FM can "go through walls". i mean if a thin wall block it, still ok

AM, no such thing, and it;s prone to interference.

AM = Amplitude Modulation
FM = Frequency Modulation

Basically, signals sent by AM system are modulated (changed) by varying the amplitude of the signals. FM signals are modulated by varying the frequency. AM signals are easily jammed if someone standing near you has a strong signal than your's.

No. By changing crystal you can only change the carrier frequency but not the modulation method.
