    Neon Lights

I have 2 neon lights, given to me by my brother from his PC. It was in the PC but it caused heating problems n remove it.

Using a 3s2p, the neon lights lighted up.

Using my car batt, the neon lights lighted up.

Then I connect it to my car boot lights, it did not light up and I saw smoke from the transformer. Car boot wire was white n green wire. Neon lights red n black wire. Guess I connected the wires wrongly.

I opened up the transformer box n saw the PCB board burnt.

Anyone here can help me repair it????

    I'll post the pics tonight.

That burn out is the inverter. It is a circuit to step up 12V to maybe 1000V.

Show us the picture. Most likely the power transistor burn out. The PCB track maybe burn out also.

Wah... somebody want to install neon lights under the carriage ah??

Dun think it's small enough to fit on the trex?

The neon lights can fit the skids of trex but the transformer

Ok will take a pic of it.

My brother threw away all the packaging therefore I'm unable to tell what type of step up voltage.

The lights cost S$18 from SLS.

I was planning to have it in my car boot. Under car carriage, kena caught, fine S$500 per light. Its not worth it man!!!

The DC is from the source, e.g car batts 12V supply.

The AC goes to the lights.

                Please help!!!

Track burn liao but still possible to connect using wire... Can you see any numbers on the transistor?

Yeah looks like a simple Transistor nia

Follow the part number of the other set and get it replace .... wrong polarity causes it to burnt?

                      Hi Adrianli

It is just a Transistor burn out. The PCB track can easily repair by soldering with wire or using conductive pen.

The transistor is most likely similar to the one normally use in stroboscope. That part number I think is D912 or something like that.

Take a look at the other transistor. By the look at the PCB track, it appears to be 2 transistor working in darlington or in a so called "push-pull" design. Both transistor should be the same.

Oh... when u go and buy the transistor, u need to buy the other transistor as well as I suspect it may be damage also.

                        SH,

Can I pass it to u n u help me repair???

Me know nuts abt electrical or electronics. More of a mechanical guy.

The black thing pointed by the arrow has 3 legs one leh. I know the transistor is burnt but what is the 3 leg thing???

That is the transistor lor... It could be MOSFET also.

Can. Pass it to me and I try to repair for u. No guaranty it will recover oh. It may ends up to be unable to find the matching transistor. Just pass it to me I see what can I do about it.

                            Ok Thks.

I'll bring it on the next funfly.

I'll pay for whatever parts u buy. But must remember the whole neon lights cost S$18 only.

                              Eh.. GOTO SLT basement..

Space electronics, got display small n thin (shorter than trex landing skid!) cold tubes!

Selling each tube at $6 and the inverter board at $12..
The inverter board will accept DC 12V input and output to the tubes..
I think it shld be the same one for ur tubes??
