    Phuket 2008

    Hi Glider Fans

It is time of the year where we begin to plan for this year Phuket trip.
The dates that we are looking at will be from 7 - 11 Jul 08. Couples of carriers I'm looking at are AirAsia and TigerAirways. Of course you can also take a full board carrier.

    Flight information.
    AirAsia FD3525 1315/1405 S$9.99 S$77.99 incl tax
    FD3524 0955/1245 S$9.99 S$89.99 incl tax
    S$167.98

    TigerAirways TR152 0815/0855 S$39.99 S$62.99 incl tax
    TR153 0930/1210 S$29.99 S$84.00 incl tax
    S$215.98

    Hotel information.
Azzurro Village Hotel (Patong Beach) S$45 per night std room no breakfast

Very convenient as in the heart of Patong Beach with all the shopping, food, massage and pubs

The Old Phuket (Karon Beach) S$64 per night deluxe room incl breakfast.

I find Karon beach a bit quite but never the less still have some shopping and food.

Sabana Resort (Nai Harn Beach) S$44 per night garden view incl breakfast

Nice hotel. Visited it last year nice zen room after their upgrade. Only thing a bit far from any activites but it very near the flying site.

I am planning to book my flight some time next month. As for the hotel I will see where the majority goes?

    Dennis,

I am interested. Fly glider only? Any runway? How to check-in gliders?
If you are feeling down....just pull up the stick!

Glider only. There is no runway and you need to pack and protect your gliders to check it in.

Some of you guys asked me how to land, well there are 2 places you can land. At the highest peak, you will have to land onto the bushes. On the lower level there is a flat ground . The wind on the lower level is not that strong so maybe for those who have not done slope or are not very confident can use it.

            This is the lower level.

            Highest peak

            The different in heights.

Phuket, here I come. I will be booking my flight earlier as June is Peak season with all the school holidays. Who will be arriving on Day 1 on 1st July? I might land in Phuket on 2nd July 2008. Where shall we meet?

Does anyone know if we must declare our transmitters & gliders before leaving to prevent GST tax when returning? I know there is a form for declaration for expensive equipment like camera and lens or you will be taxed upon re-entry.

Here is the list of Glider Pilots confirmed going for the Phuket trip. please add in your names & confirmation accordingly

              1. Dennis (Confirmed)
              2. James & Family (Confirmed 4 pax flying up there)
              3. Johnnie Wong (Confirmed, driving up there)
              4. Joe & Family
              5. Tony & Family

Am really looking forward to this trip, ...however due to some career developments, I may have to take a rain check.

So we have to book Air tickets and make hotel reservations on our own ?
For phukets virgins where do we meet ? ...understand from some veterans that we have to rent a 4x4 to drive up the steep inclines to the flying site at the top.

If you depart together as a group, no problem. What we do is get a cab from the airport to your hotel. If you wish, you can hire a car from the airport and drive down to Patong or Karon. It's about45min drive. Getting the car from the airport is a little more expensive.

I spoke to Johnny last night. He and some others might be staying in Azzurro Patong. Azzurro is in the heart of Patong Beach. Not a 5 star hotel but simple rooms, aircon and TV. Cost around S$45 per night. The trouble with this hotel, they don't have a carpark. You will have to park along the road and even days and odd days you have to park on the different side of the road. Of course getting a car from the town is much cheaper.

Joe and his family will probable stay at Old Phuket Hotel in Karon. Nice place but unlike Patong it quite. I might join him there. Last year I got molested in Patong...

No worries, just confirm your flight first, the hotel can come in later.
Just take note, Airasia limit the checkin luggage to 15kg. They charge more for sport equipment.

She also wish you come fast fast. Just sloping will do, no groping.
