Cheapest way is to get a PC power supply and convert it..
usually is 12V output at 10-20A depending on the quality u buy..
Can cost from $30 to $150..
Or 2nd hand one can go up to 8A at least..
I found someone's junked CPU and stripped his P/S anyway..
have yet to convert it, will do it this long holiday!
Stay tuned for the pics!
The PC p/s will give a stable n powerful supply for a fraction of the cost..
The other way is to get those DC regulated p/s at SLT/SLS..
usually it's about $50 for a 12v 3-5A.. Anything higher,
it'll cost more.. i think it's about $80 for a 10A or so.. not sure..
I'm actually using a non-regulated $28 NewStar 9-15V, 3A DC power supply..
So far, it charges my lipos using the prolx lipo charger fine..
just that i dunno how to do it cos my mom has a spare PC PS .She also has a SGD600 dual output constant current OR constant voltage PS but when i try to use it to charge my neighbour's honey bee2 lipo batt....the PS cannot take it and the voltage drops like hell
Yup.... PC power supply.... I finish modifying one after I manage to jio jio my office IT staff to get me 1 used unit. Just cut the unused wire and join up all ground and 12V wiring. I measured and got 11.75V which is ok for my stepper application.
Just a reminder hor..
It is not the voltage that kills.. (i.e. high voltage low current is ok)
It is the current (i.e. low voltage high current can kill)
How I know? But in my school days we play with a tester for power stations... 45kV.. yup.
Current was in mA... (or less.. can't remember.)
Zap each other... feel less that an ant bite.
Ask any Power Engineers... they should be able to confirm this. (in fact 1st year Engineering students should know too...)
Low voltage like lets say 5V with 100A will not kill u because the voltage too low to for the electric to pass through your body. Body resistance tooo high. But if u have like 100V with 5A (heck! 2A can kill if I'm not wrong), U will get fried.
Bottom line is that both must work hand in hand to kill.
BTW... the capacitor is not only has high voltage, it has high current also. Don't believe, u turn ON your PSU and OFF it and then quickly short the capacitor. U will see a HUGE spark... your eyes can go blind momentary. I use it to do Home Made Spark welding before.
Triton works with this..... but because it is a not-regulated supply... the output voltage from the supply was not accurate. I need to set it to 9V, and the outout is actually 12.5V...
This tranformer didn't work with Apache... but it seems Triton is happy with it...

Tranformer was purchase from PK Computer at Funan... ard $50. When I got it, I didn't relised I needed a regulated one.. and it has been sitting on my shelf for ard 2 months since none of my chargers can use it.. until now!!
Can buy from SLT 3 flr. next to the automation karang guni shop. 7 amps about $70. can try to bargain.
The one more steady looking one B1, opposite the batt shop selling the brand Mansion, they have from 10 amps to 40 amps. price about $150 to $280. quite ex.
Best deal is to convert from PC ps. The instruction from the forum is very clear and simple to follow. Or can convince the expert to convert one.
