    9CHP vs. 9X - A Personal Review

    Okay,

Thanks to That Hobby Shop, I finally get to fiddle in depth with the 9X version II.

Here's my quick overview comparing the two TX:-

In terms of config power, 9CHP wins hands down due to the capability to reprogram and reassign switches regardless of which 'Aircraft type' (ie. Planes/Gliders/Helis). For 9Xv2, once you're in a particular aircraft type, you get kind of restricted with the switches...(not as if you definitely need to reprogram)

So considering flexibility of programmable mixes, switches & knobs reassignment, 9CHP wins! (RC Robotics people swears by 9CHP because of this flexibity!)

In the 9Xv2, i tried programming Delta wing acro model, and i find that it's restricted on mixing the Elevons in terms of reversing channels and reversing the mix. I had to manually swap the connectors to achieve the proper setup i had wanted. Maybe the function is hidden somewhere, but it's definitely not intuitive enough for me to find my way thru.

Naming convention for End travel, Elevator, Aileron, etc... are also not as intuitive as the 9CHP, even though I'm pretty used to JR's X378 menu setup. It'll take alittle bit getting used to the way 9X's menu & scrolling work...

I find that the 9X scrolling button is also a bit scary as I did slip on the TX a bit while scrolling thru the values with my thumb. 9CHP's circular scroll is a little bit better in my point of view. Other than the scroll wheel, in terms of handling, I always liked JR's feel....JR's design is more ergonomics, and stick controls are somehow more comfortable to me.

After the brief encounter with the 9Xv2, I had somehow given up the temptation of buying the 9Xv2 because most of the functions I needed can be achieved with my JR X378. Only plus point for me on the 9Xv2 is the 7points pitch/throttle curve, which is definitely a big winner with heli flyers.

Money for value - 9CHP wins
    Programability - 9CHP wins
All round performance - 9CHP wins
Heli specific usage - 9X wins
    Ergonomics - 9X wins
    Cool factor/Looks - 9X wins

Just my 2cents worth of sharing....

Highly agreed with what 9VDXN review

I personally own a 9 CHP before really like it so much. Programming wise is excellent. Except the appearance is not much compare with 9x 2.

Just wonder if 9CHP has the appearance like 9x v2 with a 7 point throttle and pitch curve. I think this will make them sell like hot cake.

    Excellent review

No problems....always a pleasure to share.

Anyways, after fiddling with it, i think the 9X is just pretty much being hyped up.
The X378H that i have is already capable to handle up to my flying needs for heli, and I'm sure your X3810 is powerful enough....

No need to change to 9X unless u want the 'bling' factor.

I think the JR 9x2 also has 9 channels on both PPM n PCM while the 9C only has 8 channels on PPM

Is it true the programming of the 9X2 has 30 model memories and is the same as the 9303??

not sure about the PPM & PCM.

And yep, 30 model memories. but not sure if it's same as the 9303.

I have gone thru briefly on the manual of the 9303. Most of it I can find on our version of the 9xII.

Apart from all that you have described in your review, I would like to add, that the 9xII have additional mixes from 3 Program mixes to 6. If in Heli mode there are 3 more mixing function w throttle that helps the bogging down during high rate input for rudder, elev and aile.

Another big diff I found that will help is the digital trimming, it captures the adjustment in one flight mode & concurrently maps it to all the other flight modes. Previous version can't do this.

wow...sounds cool....looks like the 9XII is really optimised for heli flyers.

                    9Xv2 Software bug

                    Software bug in 9Xv2??

In model naming function, there's a row of data for the LCD screen missing (in the alphabet selection menu)

Also in the scrolling thru of models, model 1-5 have the LCD row missing also...

Not too sure if it only exist in the set that I played around with.

Not a software bug...just a bad LCD with a line missing....Thanks to Mechplas for the confirmation...

Anyways, here's some more pros & cons on 9CHP vs. 9XvII:

                      Timer function....
9CHP allows throttle activation of count-up or countdown timer. 9XvII only uses switch/button.

                      Switch/Knobs/Lever Mapping....
9XvII mapping is indeed kind of restricted by software and the 9CHP definitely allows more flexibility.

                      Transmission Power.....
9XvII on 72/75mhz gives out a whopping 1watts of RF power as stated in the Japanese manual, as compared to 9CHP where i think it only gives 750mW according to FCC regulations. (This means longer TX range for the 9XvII & more powerful.)

                      Battery power....
The 9CHP eats 280mah of power & the 9XvII only eats 200mah...so technically u get longer operation time with similar batteries on the 9XvII.

That's all until I managed to find more pros & cons.

                        Another interesting discovery...

9X feels more comfortable & natural when using pinch method then with 9CHP.
