    Prolux charging problems

I have recently purchased a Zoom 400 together with the electronics pack. I also purchased a Prolux 3834 charger and I'm experiencing problems when charging. The 1600 mAh 3 cell battery that comes with the pack will not charge when the charger is set to 3 cells but it will charge when set to 2. Has anybody else experienced the same and how do you determine whether the charger or battery is at fault?

I am assuming, that as the heli will not lift, there's not enough power to the main rotor and that this is due to the fact that only two cells are charged in the battery. I have increased the high pitch past 7 degrees and it still will not lift off the ground. If anybody has any ideas on the above, it would be much appreciated. Cheers.

    Hi Scottie

First of all... Welcome to this forum (DaddyHobby). And sorry for slow reply.

For your case, it could be your battery is dead. U said it is 3Cells, then the voltage should be 12.6V when full charge. If the battery is low, it should be 3Vx3 = 9V.

Use a voltmeter to measure your battery. If it is like 6V or 7V, then it is confirm that one of your Li-Poly Cell is shorted or dead.

Sometime is can be revive back by finding which cell that is 0V or very low, and then charge them manually BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The best is to get/purchase another battery.

      Thanks Super-Hornet

I'll return it to the model shop I purchased it from and buy a voltage tester. Would the fact that one cell is faulty, cause a drop in power preventing the heli from taking off? Or, would it just shorten the available flying time?

      Thanks again

The prolux charger have this as a safty feature to prevent you from charging your cell with the wrong setting, if one cell is dead and your charger allows you to continue charge with a 3 cell setting.....better get the fire extingusher standby....

          Hi Scottie

For dying cell, u still can charge it but it cannot hold the amount of capacity as what it use to. (Any high current draw will make the voltage drop very rapidly).

For some cell that is dead, it became 0 volt and sometime become conductive. Sometime it because non conductive. With that, your 3Cell voltage may register as 0Volt or 8.4V or lower.
