    Where to get Dremel toolset?

    Hi All,

I am looking to get Dremel toolset for my DIY. Anyone knows where to get it cheaper? Saw from Homefix but price quite steep.

BTW, anyone have the cord and cordless version? Which would be recommended? advantages and disadvantages.

The Dremel 800 with 60 bits accessories can be purchased for $195 at Jet Hobby and Skyhobbies. This is the Lithium Cordless one.

Alternatively you can buy the U.S. version (110V) for very much less. However you'll need to get a 110V to 240V AC converter for charging.

Dremel is the brand? Do they have equivalent Black and Decker set?

Yes, Dremel is a brand. And there is a Black and Decker equivalent. I'm currently using the Black and Decker one.

I think in general its called a "rotary tool." I can be mistaken here.

But this is a good example of excellent branding in a niche power tool market. Alot of people is calling the tool a Dremel. If this continues, it will be up there with Scotch Tape (adhesive tape) and Pamper (diapers).

                  I apologise for rambling.

                  Cheers

Hee hee you're right.. Add to that list Tabasco sauce!

So you are using the Firestorm? Looks good...

Can this rotary tool replace a drill set? I already have the B&D cordless screwdriver using the old Versapak. Don't wanna get so many different cordless tools if there can be some cross-functions...

This can replace drill set only till certain extend limited by its max drill bit size it can bite.
I supposed cordless screwdrivers are pretty low in its speed but high torque. U need some high kV spinning to do certain jobs like cutting metal..

Thanks bro. Good use of KV and torque to put it into perspective. I think if you look at the whole range of usage, yep probably can't be avoided to get the dedicated tools. I guess I was wishing there was one tool which can be used for my normal range of activities, like :

                        1. Reaming a prop
                        2. Drilling a small hole on my plywood firewall
                        3. Screwing medium/large screws for other non-flying applications

The way I see it now, I think the 'rotary tool' and 'drilling tool' function can be quite close. Granted for screwing large screws, will need low KV and high torque, so the screwdriver's existence is still justified

I just hate that I need to bring out and connect my huge corded impact drill to rim 2 props and the handy cordless screwdriver is sitting there doing nothing
