Yo~
My dad just authorised me to buy a canon a80 cam with some other support equipment. Prior to this I heard my friend suggesting a95 instead.
I did some of my own digging in the net and found that they both come in pretty well in reviews. However I believe these might be due to a certain product bias or human judgement sway due to various factor. To eliminate this, I would like to request comments especially from experienced camera users and enthusiats who have experienced a wide range of products and is quite updated.
Well, besides the good things I heard from reviews, the bad stuff is as follows:
1.) E18 error. A system error which makes the camera inoperable and requires repairs from Canon people. After repair, the error is still as likely to occur. Error occurs randomly and various physical or system factors seems to be involved. From the reviews, only few complained about it, but they mention that some or all Canon cameras are vulnerable. This means it certainly exist on a80 and might be on a95. If this is true, it is of serious consideration for me. I do not want to pay $600 odd to gamble.
2.) Purple foliage. From what this phrase sounds like, I believe its the purple-bluish-dark diminishing frame that surrounds some poor photos that I've seen? Please correct me. Some says its worst on a95 than on a80, some says they are the same.
3.) A95 eats batteries and is JPG only. If you were professional, or a frequent user with various task to perform and situations to handle, how does it affect you?
Please verify the above "badies" about the a80 and a90, and if possible, bring up more issues about this two cameras.
At the same time, if there is any other camera that deserve consideration, please mention it.
My criteria is as follows:
1.) This will be my first manual camera, and I intend to get something that I can grow a long time with.
2.) Budget is $600. Variations up to $700 may be considered. Camera only. Support equipments will be outside of this consideration.
3.) Issues such as E18 is way too serious. I would like camera with no major issues of this sort which compromise the entire camera totally and have very crippling effects, or the likes of such.
Any comments and help is greatly appreciated.
PS: I sound like setting A level questions huh. Too much exams.
