How to check wether your battery is dead ?

Hi all, how to test whether a battery is dead ?? I have brought a GWS 8.4 V 350 Mah battery about 18 months back but never use it before. Currently, I tried to do fast or slow charge using the GWS charge, the battery probably runs about 12 seconds at max speed before it dies. Strange is that other battery that I have worked fine. Any clues ? Thanks in advance.

Charge and discharge the batts a few cycle to "wake it up"

If after say 5 cycles and it still does not hold charges, it will certify mine as dead.

im having shi&^$ loads of problems with batteries. After charging i put into heli and one of them instantly shows red wen i move the sticks around on the batt chezcker. other one starts going red after 2 flights.. not even any 3d... not sure what the prob is. Is their anybody hu has found that their on off switch or anything other then the batt and sticky linkages that would draw power out of the battery? Or show it as "weak" on the on board meter?
