    That's Interesting

Hey MicroHelinut, your web page is really interesting! You from Microbio, or Biochem, or Molecular Bio? Or some new field? Don't know what is the latest majors offered by NUS nowadays. Graduated so long ago.

Anyway, congrats on the publishing of your research in the web page!

    Best Wishes

        Thanks...

I'm one of the 800 from Life Sciences ( not at the top or middle )... Should be concentrating in MicroBio. I'm considering hopping into biostatistics or bioinformatics. The Webpage was part of my Bioinformatics research on the causative agents of soil disease..... The Straits Times published something about it a while ago...

Piccolo, U were from a Bio major?

And yes, Phiber, my next webpage will be on micro heli.... and a lot of cheap tricks will be on it...however, i'll need a free web hoster and some Micro FPs plus modded Micro FPs..... I realise that modifications on Daddyhobby sometimes not found anywhere else Like the case of Loyn's inverted motor design that was 'ripped' into Like90 products...

Oh yar... the disease referred above is quite potent, so morale of the story is if u have to play on wet soil, make sure u wear some shoes and if the portion of your skin got a cut, you cannot expose it to the wet soil.....

In those days, no combi called Life Sciences. Life was simple then. We have Zoology and Botany under Science Faculty, and Biochemistry and Microbiology and Physiology under Medicine Faculty. Molecular Bio (particularly molecular genetics) was an emphasis in every of the above subjects.

I majored in Biochem, Microbio and Chem in 2nd year and in Microbio and Chem in 3rd year and specialised in MicroBio in Honours years. IMCB was setup only 3 yrs ago and several of our lectures were conducted in IMCB by the research scientists there.

But I think Life Sciences in NUS are alot more exciting today. In those days, PCR was the talk of the town and only the privileged labs had PCR machines. Today, you won't tell people you had a lab if you don't own a PCR machine, or better still, a real-time PCR. In those days, we learn monoclonal technology in the third year, but I think now monoclonals are basic tools even for first year?

And I think studying Life Scieneces in NUS is alot more exciting today with so much specialisations offered to students. BioInformatics looks hot and appears to be a key field after the launch of the Human Genome Project. Understand that the Polys are also looking into offering BioInformatics (or some already have?) Go for it MicroHeli-Nut!

But if you were to ask me, MicroBio is the most exciting field in the entire universe

Sigh, I'm outta the Honours list liao... first year cap too frigging low.... although they lowered the bar to 3.5....

I like research, but i really hat ethe ways they grade us in NUS..... only the people that emphasise on their grades win. So we've a lot of people who'll find ways and means to get the best marks or squeeze marks.... Really hate the rat race culture....

-->Phiber... I believe HZM is paying for this forum webspace as well...

Agree with you Microheli-nut. Methods of assessment in NUS are not perfect. I think exams do not tell a person's ability completely.

But remember, there are many routes to a research career, and most of them offer opportunities for MSc. Look around you, talk to the professors, many of them probably have a project waiting for a research assistant to work on.

Even then, after all said and done, do keep your options open for there are many careers out there that offers satisfaction and happiness.

                  Regards
