    Use of licenced frequency

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to confirm something. I heard that there were some guys caught in Woodlands with illegal frequency and were fine $200. Is that true? Does it means that flying in Woodlands require a proper licence? I used to fly in woodlands. It will be quite sad for sure a nice flying field to close down...

No matter where you are, in singapore only legal frequency is 29mhz

        Yes. For RC aircrafts, 26.96 – 27.28 MHz, 29.70 – 30.00 MHz are legal.
Maximum TX power is ≤ 500 mW.
2.4GHz is deem as a "open frequency band" globally (manfacturers can park any short range equipment on this band without registration with local authority)... so should be fine too... (no clear explanation on this.)

For RC cars, it is 27Mhz.

And you need to register your transmitter with IDA.. pay a annual registration fee.. this has been covered in this forum many times....

          Just to sidetrack....

Woodlands is NOT a proper flying field...there are requirements to be met when flying and one of the clause is that flying is NOT allowed within a 5km radius of an airport...

actually at IDA site, it is mentioned

"Exemption of low power radio-communication equipment from licensing

Currently, low power radio-communication equipment operating at TAS pre-assigned frequency bands with output power less than 100 milliwatts are exempted from licensing. With improved technology in frequency and power control, new low power radio-communication equipment is commonly manufactured with higher output power at 500 milliwatts. TAS has decided to relax the licensing of this category of equipment as technological advances have allowed for a more liberal licensing framework to prevent radio interference and abuse of the radio-communication equipment. Under the new scheme, licensing will be waived for equipment that is capped at the higher output power of 500 milliwatts. Equipment with power exceeding 500 milliwatts still needs to be licensed because of their higher potential to cause radio interference."

And as per guidelines, RC aircraft transmitter needs to be less than or equal to 500mW... so from this clause, we are exempted from registrating since a few years ago...

but I do remember hearing we still need to register.. so.. maybe someone can confirm?

Legally speaking, you need a localised radio-com license from IDA for your transmitter. And it has to be one of their approved models.

I renew my license every year, so I won't know of the 'relaxed' regs, but come on, it's only $25/yr, and no one can then fault you for operating an unlicensed radio equipment.

I am reading this with the utmost seriousness.

one thing I would like to ask, has something serious happen at Woodland that resulted in the police taking such drastic measure to fine somebody? Was there any argument at Woodland? Major crash? Why? and Why now?
                        anyone please enlighten..

I have full confident in our police force in carrying out their duties. While at the same time I strongly believe that they have the human factor too.. Else, action will be taken long ago when the first heli or plane flew there.

I feel that everyone want this hobby so that they can disengage themselves from the burden of daily work and stress. And I sincerely hate to see such a educational and recreational hobby gets banish to one corner of singapore; leaving access to people who have easy transport.
Its a hobby to share and have fun; and not to dominate or rule. Therefore, we have to do our fair share of making this a sustainable hobby for each other and not just for ourselves.

The arrest at Woodland is a warning shot. Take heed!
Please let others know what went wrong there so that similar situation do not happen in other areas.
