Homemade Base-loaded 'micro' antenna HOW TO

uh, I've heard someone had success here with one of these. How to make one and what do you need? What are the restrictions that the antenna might pose?

Is this a Rx mod where you simply solder it onto the rx in place of the long antenna?

    thanks

    Hi

Base loaded is antenna with inductive load at the base. Center loaded is inductive load at the center.

I mention this before somewhere in this forum. I think Jerah something (Can't remember his callsign) is trying it also.

If you do not want to DIY it yourself, then go and spend S$17.xx from Rotor shop. They have 40MHz and 72MHz. I not sure about 29MHz but 35MHz they do not have.

I using my DIY base loaded antenna in my Hornet II and now transfered to my Dragonfly without any problem.

Wow, terms i still dun understand. so you just get this wire from a hardware shop or sim lim tower and solder it on immediatelY?

Those transformer wire is enamel insulator coded. You have to either scratch off the insulator or burn it off. I prefer burn it.

Once the copper wire is expose, u can solder it.

Note: DO NOT SCRATCH or BURN OFF the whole wire. Only the part u need to solder.

Cool, so I go to sim lim and ask for "base loaded wire" and they will understand?

            No...

Based loaded antenna is either u DIY yourself or u buy it.

To buy it, u go Rotor Hobby.

To DIY it, u need to calculate the lenght for your wavelength. Then calculate how long is needed to make the load. Then go Sim Lim Tower and buy Transformer wire. Thickness... Well bigger the better but it will be heavy and difficult to coil it in small area. Too thin u create more resistance. So maybe 0.5mm or 0.6mm will do.

I think your berg antenna has an inductor near the RX side. There is a notch right? If yes, then that is the inductor. In this case, it is the base loaded "load".

Chances your inductor is spoil or open contact. If u can replace it, replace it. If not, u can always use a normal antenna wire and then coil them up near the RX side (DO NOT OVERLAP). There u have it... a simple base loaded antenna.

Another alternative (which I prefer) is to coil all the wire on the plastic tubing. Again, do not overlap it. In this way, u have a continues loading antenna.

so replacing it with a normal JR wire will work? i was also thinking of getting a revolution or Dean Loaded Antenna available overseas.. what do u think of them? seems quite alot of ppl overseas have success with them

Range comparison, long antenna will have longer distance than base/center/continues loaded antenna. BUT how far do u fly your heli? Get those commercial loaded antenna if u want to. It should work well. Using standard antenna also work. It is all up to u.

<300Meters should not be any problem.
