View Full Version : power up grade for my profile plane
"If not broke don't fix it, if broke improve it"
Well that is what happen to me last weekend. When flying with my profile plane out door and manage to do some stupid pattern to the point that confusion take over logical think and .......dive to the ground. Broke the IPS gb.
So since it is damage must well give it a upgarde to "CD-rom" power. Following is the end result
yet to be tested and hopefully give me more power for hovering
Oh has give it some colour too....winnie the pooh, winnie the pooh......
That's a good looking profile.
How did you do the cd-rom motor? i have problem finding the proper components.
Well the cd-rom motor is from old cd-rom drive. Only problem is to get one which can accept 3mm std ball bearing. My cd-rom motor is mix and match of 2 diff motor. :( The shaft is from IPS same as the 3 mm bearings. A round servo disk has be modified to act as base of the motor (not shown in the pic). Finally a GWS motor holder to attach to the plane. Oh by the way I have replaced those ring magent with stronger square magnet from aircraft world.
It is not easy to get to this stage as many trial and error involved:L
Does the hovering get affected with the short tail moment? i know the spins and flips will be excellent though
don't see much problem with the IPS system but not too sure about the cd-rom motor as yet to test fly.....keeping my finger cross:S
Does the ips have enough power for 3D? i have something 20+" for ips too but my motor has died before i can test fly....
also what battery are u using for it?
i think if u use the edf motor instead of the ips it will give some good vertical on a small 2s pack

hi loyn:)
"no pain, no gain, ...no break, no change:sneaky::L "...glad u got it fixed...hope it flies even better than b4...:)

Hi spidey , any plan to fly on this coming Sunday :lip:
OK manage to test fly my CD-rom profile plane on last funfly and the conclusion is .......IT ROCKS!!!!!
Even those it may not able to hover as good as the IPS but the over performance have improved significantly. Now I can do all kind of pattern without worry of power issue and in normal condition only required 50% power on a 700mAh 2S Lipo battery. Man I am really enjoy flying this profil plane :sneaky: Will try with different prob size to evaluate for any change in performance.
